Catelynn, Tyler, and the elusive college degrees

So I was just thinking about why these two have not even completed a year of credits in the past 6 years. I just don't think they're academic or studious enough to complete a 4 year degree. Also, Tyler has talked about the field of psychology, which would likely require at least an additional 3 years of school. I don't think there is any way either of them are disciplined enough or really bright enough.
So why don't they go to vo-tech and learn a trade (like Chelsea did)...
it occurred to me that they both (especially Tyler) want to feel they are better than their upbringing, and different than their parents. I really think Carly's adoption was a big fu from Tyler to Butch, and so is this college dream. The major difference is, the adoption was a one and done deal, but college is a huge commitment. They can't seem to follow through on it, but choosing a different route would be like admitting defeat and accepting that maybe they aren't so different from their folks.

I think a lot of it has to do with how successful the show has become. They did both go back to high school and finish right? I think they both would have at least attempted to go to school had the show not taken off and they had money rolling in. Somebody else, I think on the TM2 board started a thread about how the behind the scenes special showing how spoiled they've all become. They have hair and makeup people and their own trailers to hang out in, they're flown all over the place, and put up in nice hotels, and if somebody wants to throw a fit they're handled with kid gloves. Life got cushy and they lost their motivation.

I said that on another thread. Tyler, in particular I believe had all intentions of doing everything he ever wanted to do. He had potential and still does if you ask me. Cate discovered that being a couch potato is better than working everyday. The money made them complacent. Had there been no TM or OG I think Tyler would have definitely gone to school and made something of himself. Cate? No. Even Tyler's mom said she was never a go getter. She even finished high school a year after he did if I remember correctly. The money and show was a gift and a curse.

People keep ragging on Catelynn but I don't see Tyler doing anything either. He said he wants to write, is he doing that, he complained that Catelynn took Nova over to her mom's too often, okay, so where were you to stop her? Honestly if Tyler was over weight and not conventionally attractive I think more people would be ragging on him.
