Dear Hollywood: Stop screwing up beloved book series!

Apparently the Mortal Instruments movie isn't doing well, which doesn't surprise me because they didn't cast half the characters right. And now I see who's supposedly cast as the two main characters of this series..and it doesn't give me hope for this one either. Who seriously gets to make these decisions? Clearly someone that has never read the books. Maybe Hollywood should stop trying to make so much freaking money and actually try to please the fans for once.

Okay, I'm done ranting now. I'm just tired of things I love being destroyed. :/

I'm a fan and I loved the Mortal Instruments, and the casting. I'm also happy with the 2 actors they've chosen for fallen, as I've seen them in other projects.

What you want the producers to do is please YOU. There's nothing wrong with that. But in a movie adaptation of a popular book, not everyone is going to be happy. In our mind we have an idea of what the characters look and sound like, and I guarantee you, if we read the same book, your visualization would be different from mine.

If it bothers you that much,(and from reading these posts, you're not the only one) you should probably stick to seeing films made from original screenplays. That way you can judge it on its own merits and not compare it to a book it's been adapted from.

I completely agree with you, Violet.

Why bother describing a character if you're not going to pay any attention when it comes to casting? It's ridiculous. I know there are such things as hair dye and contacts, but that's not my point. It's also the FEEL of the actor.

So far, I think Fallen has been cast wrong. Addison should never have been cast as Luce. She doesn't have the look, and even if they dyed her hair black and made her paler, she still doesn't have the feel of Lucinda. She just doesn't give off that vibe. I think she would have been better suited as another character.

The guy playing Daniel, I'm not completely sold on him. I do think he has potential to become a decent Daniel, but he is not the perfect Daniel. Personally, and this is just based on looks, but I think he would have been better as Cam.

I don't even think they gave actors enough time to audition. I know of a lot of actresses who would have been better suited as Luce, but the audition process was so quick, they didn't even get a chance to audition. I think because they bought the rights to the series a while ago, they're just trying to hurry up and put it out there to become the "next big thing". Now, I love the books but I think this is going to bomb like Beautiful Creatures.

It's too bad that the studios don't release the screen tests of the people they end up casting in major roles. They obviously see something we don't. And as i said in a previous post no two people visualize the same person when they're reading the same book and thinking about the characters.

I can totally imagine Jeremy Irvine as Daniel. I've seen some of his other work and he is a very talented actor. I am more on the fence about Addison, but with a different color hair and makeup tone I think she'll be fine. After all, they're actors. They're supposed to slip into the skin of their characters and make it their own. I wasn't happy when Jennifer Lawrence was cast for Hunger Games but after seeing the movie, I can't imagine anyone else.

I'm excited for filming to begin and to see the first trailer.

I completely agree with you. Do any of these directors read the books. I have so much passion for this series and I would love to see the actors casted to be almost as I see them when I'm reading the books. The author should really put more say into the casting.

Well I don't see how it screws up the book series - The book and film aren't of the same continuity. But if it's the adaptation process, they're different mediums.

Hollywood don't need to please the fans. They alone can't generate enough revenue to make a success of a film. That is why sacrifices need to be made.
