Sequel already In Production.

So they already have the sequel in production?? The studio must be confident it will do well!
I just hope whoever is making Hush, Hush hurries up and starts casting!

Hush Hush isn't going forward at the moment, Becca said last year. Maybe at some point again, but not right now.

reply

Well that's disappointing.

I think this is just a rumor. The fact that the first movie is still not out (doesn't even have nor has it ever been given an official release date) and that they are taking so long to do any promotion whatsoever for it shows that they aren't confident that it will do well.

How do they expect it to do well if they don't promote? The trailer is due to come out in a month and the movie in the fall, that's a very period of time and no one knows anything about this film. A teaser should have been released a few months ago, this is taking too long.

I hope to death that this supposed fall release this year is just rumor and speculation. I feel like I'm watching Vampire Academy happen all over again which was a trainwreck when it came to promotion. It was super rushed and last minute which contributed a lot to how poorly it did in theaters.

The release date should be announced at minimum a year ahead of time with an initial teaser trailer coming out three seasons before the season of release (so, if it's a fall release, a teaser should be out late winter/early spring) with a first trailer coming out a few months (3-4) before the release date and second trailer coming out like 1-1 and 1/2 months before the release. After that, TV spots should be released in the 3 weeks-1 month leading up to the release. In between all of that, there should be TV interviews, panels at things like Comic Con in NYC or San Diego, and other graphic promotions (movie stills and an official movie poster or two).

They're going about this all wrong if the fall release is actually a real thing, and they are setting this movie up to bomb spectacularly. If it does actually happen the way people are saying it's going to happen right now, then I can only reason that the production company is going about it this way because they know they don't have a good product on their hands and believe that it will be a box office flop an failure. The less promotion they do, the less money they have to spend on the movie. If they're trying to save $$$$$$ by not promoting it as they should it's because they believe it will fail. That is what so many fans believe happened with Vampire Academy. The film was terribly made, and given how poor the promotion was, it seemed very likely that the reason for the latter was because the production company knew that the film wasn't going to do as well as they had initially hoped it would when they first bought the rights.

Lauren Kate has confirmed they are aiming for a Fall release and that the long awaited trailer should be out in mid July, reassuring us that the wait will be worth it. I seriously don't know what they are thinking, why bother making a film if you think it's gonna flop internationally anyway? To be honest, i'm expecting a Twilight-esque theme and some mediocre performances so they may have their reasons for not promoting it.

Honestly, timing is everything. If the movie could have actually been released last year, I don't blame them for not releasing it because all the YA movies that have been released the last couple years that weren't dystopian themed bombed. Beautiful Creatures and The Immortal Instruments: City of Bones both did horrible in 2013, and then Vampire Academy bombed last winter (2014); these all were fantasy or supernatural movies with romances in them. On the other hand, Divergent/Insurgent, The Hunger Games/Catching Fire/Mockingjay Part 1, and The Maze Runner all did great. Right now, the dystopian train is still where everything this is at when it comes to film adaptations; also (I forgot!) contemporary romance is getting big now with the success last year of The Fault in Our Stars and the soon to be success of Paper Towns. If I Stay didn't do too badly last year either. You have to get your movie out there while its genre and target audiences are still in the theaters. The supernatural/romance genre just isn't marketable right now; everyone who was anti-Twilight still has a bad taste in their mouths from how overly popular the film franchise was, and with Fifty Shades of Grey (aka Twilight fanfiction published as original fiction) having released this past winter, it's made that even worse.

When they optioned the rights to make Fallen into movie the supernatural YA romance was all the rage. I think it took them too long to make the film and the trend is over now. The first book is very similar to Twilight so comparisons will be made and that will seal the film's demise. The first still already promotes the movie as a love triangle while it's so much more. I honestly don't know if they want a limited release or an international one...the promo should start at Comic Con where it's going to have a panel and therefore a trailer will be released.
