If you KNEW a sequel was coming, you wouldn't hate the ending so much.
Think about it, take a franchise movie like The Hunger Games for example, 2 of those movies have ended with a random cliffhanger and a zoom in on Jennifer Lawrence's face, if you didn't know that another one of those movies was coming afterwards, it would be called one of the worst endings of all time, do you see what I'm saying?
I personally love ambiguous endings that let your imagination run wild, and that is why I loved the ending to Skyline, but even I knew a sequel was coming, and fortunately it still is, no thanks to people judging this movie so harshly simply because they didn't like the ending. Sure, people complain about the acting as well, but the ending seems to get the most complaints.
I hope that the sequel is great, and if so, people might become slightly more fond of the first one because they'll know that it has a follow up.
