wtf?!

I was so looking forward to watching the girlfriend blow up and freak out at sandler for lying to her the whole time at the end of the movie... and then he goes off screen, and comes back and everything is perfect?

um... JIP!

reply

Yeah, I was also wondering when they would finally tell her the truth.

reply

She actually felt it before the marriage! She had asked Aniston's character if there was still something between the two of them.

reply

I meant the truth about everything - the ring, the children, "Dolph Lundgren", even their names!

reply

Well, they probably just sent her off (being a 3rd wheel and all) and they would probably never see her again! So what would be the point of hurting her!

reply

Yeah, and "I just don't love you" sounds so much better!

reply

VAL..... that's what I just wrote. By "her" and his brother, I meant Palmer.

reply

yeah...your'e right.they missed it big time!

Perhaps they didn't do that because that's what you expected.

reply

Actually, at the end of the movie when Sandler is talking to Aniston at the beach bar, doesn't he say the kids are with her and his brother after she asks him where her kids are? To me, it implied that he DID confess and explain everything to her (and call off the wedding). She probably wasn't that shocked anyway after asking Aniston's character about it...

reply

pixel_dust - no. At the end Sandler distinctly said they were with Palmer.

I agree with this. It's exactly what I was expecting because every romantic comedy goes like this... Boy and girl meet, boy and girl fall in love, boy or girl gets mad at boy or girl because of something they did or didn't do or didn't tell, there's scenes of them apart, they get back together through a mutual understanding or with the help of friends, they kiss and make up, credits roll...

reply

It did seem like some pretty lazy writing. I guess they figured the movie was already running long at nearly 2 hours, and coupled with the fact that the break-up scene would require actual acting--plus be a downer--they scrapped it.

reply

I think it's lazier writing just to throw in a bunch of circumstances that simply delay the inevitable only for it to end with the showdown that everyone's expecting. For example, see The Dilemma and The Switch.

But the whole premise of the movie is: Sandler lies, lies, and lies some more to get with this chick that's half his age. Then the time comes for him to come clean, and it happens off screen?

reply

It's never said or even implied that he comes clean to her about his scheme.

I didn't say it was. I said it was time for him to come clean, and it happened off screen. And I repeat--this equals lazy writing. Thanks for playing ASFan213, you're getting better with your reading comprehension skills all the time.

Here is your previous quote:

Am I really an idiot for interpreting it the way I did?

reply

Sandler tells Aniston they're (Sandler and Decker) literally getting married, and he realizes (during the actual wedding) he's marrying the wrong person. So he would've had to come clean, yes? And it happened off screen. So yes, you sounded like an idiot when you retorted with "it was never said or even implied that he came clean". Who said it was?

reply

But Decker tells Aniston before the wedding that she senses Sandler has feelings for Aniston. So Decker probably understood on that basis that Sandler couldn't go through with the wedding. Thus, like I said, it was never said or implied that he came clean about the whole scheme. All that is really suggested is that he called it off based on his feelings for Aniston, which Decker understood.

reply

Because a scene like that would have required some decent acting.

This makes perfect sense. All this bullsh*t about "ohh it happened off screen" no it just didn't. Fair enough though if that's what you want to think. I don't think Decker would be perfectly happy with that though as she looks quite happy on the plane home. But then again it was a pretty unbelievable storyline so anything could have happened I suppose.

Although I thought it wasn't a believable storyline, I still found it entertaining and I liked Kidman and Aniston in it.

reply

Honestly, I wasn't even mad. The movie was so ridiculous that I didn't even care about the story by the end.
