Torturous, having read the book

Just curious if anyone who has picked up the novel actually enjoyed this piece of fermented turd. I'm legit afraid that this unholy celluloid abomination has forever crippled the fondness I had for the story. GODDAMN, I wish I never saw it. F_ck me, indeed.

How was it different ?..... The book was good.

I thought Dexter was spot on and I felt I could fill the gaps and enjoy it enough. But I don't understand why they cut certain bits out.

My wife and i said the same about The Time Travellers Wife

I read the book and immediately watched the movie. The movie is useless, really, if you've read and loved the book. There's not enough emphasis on the characters' emotions IMO (ofc it's a 1h40 movie). I can't speak for those who haven't read it.

Read the book; did n-o-t love it. Saw the movie and at first...ehhhh. But then, as I began to watch it on telly, I grew to really like it. An aquired taste, really. Something different (unless u count Same Time, Next Year which was still not quite the same).

Well get back on that night train and don't watch movies when you've read the source material. And I think you've been drinking too much Nightrain (cheap skid row wine), the movie was excellent.

Agreed, I loved the book, thought it was hillarious, heartfelt, raw and a bit disturbing...The movie is an absolute piece of sh*T with no capture of the essence of the book.

It's like they decided to mess everything up just because they could. What bothered me especially was how the era and tends were so perfectly captured in the book. Music, crappy tv- shows, fashion. Instead they made everything look like Emma and dexter lived in some kind of sepia toned 1930's version of the 89's and the 90's. I mean Emma styling in the first scenes!! HELLO! Nobody her age dressed like that in the eighties apart from the dr martens. I also didn't like who they picked to play his mum! I envisioned a tanned blonde Kristin Scott Thomas . She was about to be modern and sassy. I also hated Jim sturgess. I ACTUALLY (chock) liked Anne Hathaway .

I have a feeling this won't be a popular suggestion but I think it was a shame they didn't mention her affair with the other teacher. In the book it made her seem more real, like she made mistakes too. She just didn't have much depth in the film and by contrast, made him seem even worse.

I didn't think the film was bad though her accent was very off putting and I couldn't help thinking the whole way through that Dominic Cooper would have done a better job.

Yes the book was lovely, really captured the connection between the Dexter and Emma but the film was soulless.
