The missing scene... [SPOILERS]

Okay, I liked this movie, but I really think they should have included their drunken sex scene. I don't understand how they lead up to it for the whole first half of the movie, have the pool scene where you think something may happen but it doesn't, and then completely glaze over the actual sex scene. I understand there was more to them "hooking up" but wasn't that kind of a huge part of him realizing his love for her? To me it seemed relatively important and it's a bit weird that they didn't include it. Thoughts?

I TOTALLY agree. I really felt screwed out of seeing them FINALLY get together, after all my emotional investment. They actually never had a "love scene", which bugged me a little bit from a story-telling perspective. When it's revealed that they had slept together (3 times!), I was honestly confused for a second. 'Wait, no they didn't,' I thought. It just seemed like too major of a plot point for them to just gloss over the way they did.

We don't see it because it didn't happen on July 15. Their drunken hook-up is handled the same way in the book, just in conversation in Paris.

Was that the reason? I thought it was because of PG-13.

Hmm, well I guess you can't do much if it didn't happen on the 15th. For the sake of adapting the book to film though, I think they should have figured out a way around it via flashback or something.

Totally! I actually rewinded, thinking I'd missed it. I couldn't believe it and could only think that they cut it so that the audience could have the Big Reveal (ie the big kiss) moment without watering down the romance with sex. But then there wasn't really that. We move to her running out of the cafe to run after him, like she's always done, all puppy-like. Ugh.

The scene I wish they'd included was when he was calling her all night and she was sealing the deal with the man-boy. It seemed like she was constantly putting him off at that time, which actually seems unlikely considering how in love with him she was. I can't imagine how she went on with that dopey relationship when he was so vulnerable and it could have worked, or at least dragged them closer.
