Sturgess character based on Dexter Fletcher?

Since film and the novel are based/inspired by a true story -we are told- I couldn't overlook something that struck me as peculiar. In One Day, Jim Sturgess plays a character named Dexter who also hosts a video game show. In real life, actor Dexter Fletcher (Lock, Stock and Two Smocking Barrels, The Elephant Man, Kick-Ass, Carravaggio) hosted a game show in the 90s (UK) called Gamesmasters. Both Fletcher and Sturgess are British. Is the character Dexter based or modeled after Dexter Fletcher? I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention this. Coincidence?

The first tv show shown in the film reminded me of THE WORD,presented by,among others TERRY CHRISTIAN.
I think it is wrong and simplisitic to x is really y in fictional tales like this.
The whole film was like a parody of the age,but it was a weak parody because it was just a backgound to the love story which was itself rubbish.

Not only that, but Fletcher has gone on record talking about having huge drug addiction problems and losing everything; and the last I heard he had his life back on track again and was happily married (I believe to his second wife), so that could fit...
