I can't believe these two still haven't been found. What a creepy case. One of the weirdest things is that, other than some vague guesses, there doesn't seem to be any motive to kill Mr. & Mrs. Freeman, burn their house down, and kidnap/kill the girls.
When watching this episode, part of me wondered if the girls did this themselves, but if they had done this and run off you'd think someone would have seen them by now. The fact that they haven't been seen since does suggest that they were also killed. Such a sad & haunting case. I hope they're found.
I completely agree. In the show they only briefly mention thinking the girls had been responsible, but I didn't get the impression anyone really believed it as they seemed to only focus on other possible perpetrators.
I'm still on the fence, I think Lauria and Ashley seem like the most obvious perpetrators since they were both in the house and both conveniently vanished after the event, not to mention that their bodies haven't been found. I'm sure lots of victims are never found, but I have also heard of cases where people willingly vanished, changed their identity, and were not discovered for 25+ years.
It could go either way really. Someone could have kidnapped them, taken them far away, killed them and hid their bodies well, but I don't see the point. If someone was brazen enough go come into the house, murder two adults and then burn the house down, why bother troubling yourself by taking two teenage girls? It'd be a heck of a lot easier to kill them and leave their bodies to burn in the house with the adults. My instinct says that Lauria and Ashley are responsible, but they are portrayed as such nice, normal girls...it's hard to believe they could actually commit such an act and then successfully disappear for this long. I have no idea what to think, it's such a strange case.
The reason for someone to take the two teenage girls is pretty clear, men often take the young girls and kill them elsewhere. I don't think there is a chance these two young girls would know how to run off and change their identities. They also didn't take their money which makes no sense if they planned to run. I think this case is very weird and very sad, I think both girls were probably killed a short time after the adults were.
They could be in captivity just like Jaycee Dugard, Steven Stayner or The Cleveland captives were. Tommy Lynn Sells and Jeremy Jones who claimed to have killed them had lied several times to Law Enforcement about crimes they did not commit. So nothing they can say be taken seriously.
