Jessica Heeringa and the Exxon owner Fred Ciereman

I was going to put this in my other post but it might have gotten lost since I put a lot of information in there. He was a person of interest for a while. He refused to work with police and still to this day refuses to put in security cameras.

-24 hours after Jessica went missing he put a help wanted ad on Craigslist.

-He ran off friends and family from a vigil on the store property and has hired an attorney and will not comment about the case. He told the family to stop bothering him about her, or he will have them arrested.

-Ciereman hit on his female employees and flirts with them. He admitted to only hiring attractive women.

-One of his friends owns a silver van just like the one that took Jessica.

Some people think he had something to do with it, others don't. Either way Jessica was surrounded by a bunch of people that seem awful.

-Susan the manager of Exxon just happens to be driving by at the almost exact time of the abduction (the one who saw the van but didn't get a license plate number or check on Jessica).

-Jesse Ammerman who owns a silver van, was dating Jessica and wanted to move in with her (he is the one who had the argument with her when she said no that night).

-Fred Ciereman the owner of the station who refuses to cooperate.

It could totally be just some random guy that took her but she was really surrounded by she messed up people so it is hard not to suspect them.

The owner may just be a greedy, pervy man who didn't want to "waste" money putting in security cameras and didn't want to lose business while a vigil was being held. Or maybe he had something to do with it.

I think the manager is even more suspicious though. Maybe she was in on something, knew more than she said or was trying to protect someone. I mean, following the van instead of taking the license plate? What was the point? Hoping maybe they'd pull over and confess something? Not checking on Jessica? Even if you thought she was stealing from the place, why not confront her or call the police? It didn't have to really be a confrontation, just a "Hey we were just driving by and saw a van parked out back. Do you know what it was doing there? Seemed weird." I'd probably think a bit less of it if she was an employee and not a manager or she just happened to notice a car out back but never bothered stopping. Yet she got a good look at the van and driver, late at night, but didn't think to try and get the license? Just seems suspicious.

"I mean, following the van instead of taking the license plate? What was the point? Hoping maybe they'd pull over and confess something?"

This, so hard. One thing I've wondered, too: why were no motorcycles (the manager and her boyfriend were on motorcycles) ever identified on security footage? It's only ever the silver van that is seen. Has anyone heard whether evidence of the manager being out on a motorbike is there to corroborate her story?

It is really confusing but Susan the manager is the sister of one of Jessica's ex boyfriends, she is the one who gave the description for the drawing of the suspect and her brother owns the same color van. The police say that van was somewhere else at the time of the abduction but still seems very odd and coincidental.

It makes me think Susan could be hiding something or covering for her brother, I mean why else would she not take down the license plate number? Who can believe her description of the driver now? I don't trust her at all. Either she is just really stupid or she is keeping secrets.

Jessica was surrounded by people that were no good it seems.

You really said it all perfectly. "Either she is just really stupid or she is keeping secrets." <-- Yes! I mean I know people do weird things under pressure, but why would you have the presence of mind to keep following a vehicle but not think to get the license number?

I also wanted to say thank you to you for your excellent write-up on the case. I read it before I saw the Disappeared episode and I feel like I got a lot more information having read your post beforehand. It's always very cool to get the perspective of a local!

someone posted over there that susan the manager (one of the 2 on motorcycles) deleted all her facebook entries from that time, but about 6 months before, she was griping about thefts
in the area and that she helped catch a thief at the pharmacy store, and she was happy about it...

here is the quote from facebook

However there's one post by Susan Follett from October 20th 2012 that caught my attention (it's public for everyone to see) it says: "I'm tired of all the thieves. I caught a man that robbed Watkins pharmacy!! I feel great I spoke up and got another bad person off the streets. So please speak up if u see or know something! Help us cashiers out save our lives!, PLEASE!!"

In a further comment she elaborates as to what exactly happened and what she did. This happened roughy 6 months before Jessica disappeared. I understand it's just a little comment on social network but it does show some insight into Susan Follett's thinking. As I mentioned earlier, it's hard to judge people and their actions you don't know but apparently she was someone who in the past didn't hesitate to call police, act if there was wrong doing and took action.

so this behavior doesn't match with their story that night...Another thing...how do we know the silver van isn't just a red herring.

someone living in the area says anyone driving that stretch(it is a one mile long) would end up on the coin shop camera...in order to get out of there.

they could have seen the van and just used it as a false lead to muddy the waters

Susan is very shady. If she is covering for someone then I think it comes between two people, the owner of the Exxon or her brother that had recently dated Jessica.

Seems perfect though, her seeing this silver van that her brother owns but her brothers car was with the family up north so he gets ruled out by that very thing. She could have chosen to say she say a silver van so that her brother would automatically be ruled out because there is video of his van with his family at a casino.

Now I have no idea why she would cover for the owner of the Exxon, the dude is gross, only hires pretty women and flirts with them and refused to cooperate or put in security cameras.

I think it is more likely that if she is covering for someone it is her brother. She was the one who gave that description of a driver so how can we trust her at all? I will say it again Susan is either very stupid or she is hiding something.
