The families are always clueless about the victim...

They always say:

- "They have no known mental illness
- nobody would hurt them
- would never hurt a fly
- was so happy go lucky
- no reason to behave weirdly
- we knew all their friends
- had a great job, etc."

It's amazing how many of these families just act so superficially happy when they never get to the real reason of their victim's problems. It's as if having a close family who coddles them prevents the victim from opening up about their problems. Weird.

People put on blinders all the time when it comes to someone they love. They always seem to only remember the good and usually exaggerate the good about someone missing/dead.

I was just commenting to a friend the other day how if there is one thing I've learned from watching true crime shows, it's that if your smile lights up a room, you better watch yourself. It's amazing how a lot of the victims on these shows are the "life of the party" and had fantastic lives according to their loved ones.

I'm going to start darkening rooms with my scowl, just to stay a little safer. ;)

and how many missing cases do we hear "they were so trusting" "they would help everybody"

sorry to say,but you are more likely to end up being a statistic with those (statements) kind of thinking

Agree! That roadside service guy that filled up his gas tank....and went back to check on him 6ish hours(?!!?!) later..and found him again...and tried to help him again/was in touch with the parents the entire time - did more than the cops OR his parents to help him. That story really made me irritated. I'm glad the show is back though.

I agree. What is wrong with these parents? At the first sign that some third-party says something is wrong with your child, you buy a plane ticket, talk with them and get the problem solved. You don't say "he's an adult, he can live his life as he chooses, let's be open minded". Mental illness is just as much a disease as a physical one.

Parents need to separate coddling their child and treating them like gold when in reality they're humans with problems like the rest of us, only mental illness could lead to death. And now they're in mourning for not doing anything about it.
