Do people walk out on their own life that often?

I would think the majority of these disappeared cases were kidnappings, murders and suicides.

There are some cases that people do walk out on their own lives, but they seem few and far between. To have to invent a brand new identity, get a Social Security number, credit cards and all their financial identity in order seems like so much work, especially if they were already depressed.

I was watching 'Final Prayer' about Tim Carney today and at the end it was said they ended up finding him living in Chicago. It was weird because from what I read they thought he was dead, but discovered he is alive and living in Chicago, but they made no attempt to go see him. His family was quoted as saying things like "Just knowing he is alive is enough to us and we are happy for him." Ok, but why did he leave to begin with. Some people posted comments on other sites that they believe he was gay and didn't want his family to know or live around them so he fled. That's kinda what I thought too.
