If someone is walking at night to a lake (or anywhere else) to kill themself, would they really give much thought to their clothes though? Perhaps he was counting on the cold temperatures to numb him physically or psychologically, either to psyche himself up to commit suicide or to acclimate himself to the cold a bit before entering the lake. He apparently went around in pajama bottoms regularly, so he may have even enjoyed and been used to walking around in such seemingly inadequate clothing. Also, I think it was said that we was wearing flipflops or something similar earlier that night, so he may not have been barefoot.
What's your take on the dogs hitting on the dock near where he was eventually found? If he was abducted, it seems strange that someone would either walk him to that dock or drag him there to dump him. He was a strong guy who had a lot to live for, so you'd think that even if someone had a gun on him he'd have tried to fight back... unless he was restrained or incapacitated somehow, of course. The fact that it was explicitly stated that foul play has not been ruled out makes me wonder if there was something to indicate the presence of another person. I'm curious as to whether a single person has come forward stating they heard a gunshot that night, whether at the lake or elsewhere.
I think the near-silent phonecall to his girlfriend is the key to knowing what happened. I wonder what the few mumbled words were on that voicemail? I mean, why would anyone leave such a strange voicemail so late at night, to their girlfriend who's in the next room, right after they had just spoken face to face? I would also love to know who he was playing with and may have been talking to on Xbox Live. Maybe something someone said or did upset him, or maybe he made plans to go meet someone that he had met through gaming.
I'm going to do some reading about this case tonight. The small amount of research I've done thus far has come up with mentions of other people that went missing around the same time, one man even going missing the same night(!) There's something eerie about this case that's needling at me. TBH I felt even in the first 5 minutes of the episode that one or more of his loved ones was holding back information, it was just a gut feeling. Not necessarily about their involvement, but maybe some unsavory details that could make suicide look like a more likely outcome. I'm still leaning towards it being a suicide right now, but there is definitely something fishy here and I'm glad the investigation wasn't shut down prematurely after he was found the way I've seen it happen in other cases. No matter what, that poor family deserves answers.
