Sacred Couch...huh?

I'm sure there have been, but I don't actually remember a bad episode of Bob's Burgers before this one.

I'm often entertained by 'random', and maybe this is supposed to be funny for being completely random? But it just didn't strike me as funny at all.

I mean they have a couch that clearly, CLEARLY needs to be replaced, even by my standards it needs to be replaced.

They have to work way too hard to get everyone to agree that that's the case. They buy another couch. Then after the already broken couch that clearly needed to be replaced BEFORE it was broken...after it's been sitting on the curb for however long (at least a day) in the rain, splashed constantly, taken by a bunch of guys...they want that back? That's supposed to be a serious motivation?

I mean there are tons of completely random motivations in comedies that I've found funny...on here, The Simpsons, Family Guy, 30 Rock, etc...but this just didn't work for me at all. Didn't find it funny, didn't get it.

Oh well, even still I thought it was better than piles of sitcoms LOL.

Yeah, it was a bad episode. IMO their only one, to date.

Weirdly, I've got a second one I like even less now-Flu-ouise.

I had someone watch it with me who I THINK would really like the show...and then there was this, the least representative, least funny episode of the series. *sigh*

reply

What? I loved both those episodes.

Hamburger Dinner Theater and Purple Rain-Union were the worst.

I haven't seen this one yet. The show's been airing a while now... maybe Bouchard is starting to run out of steam with it. Oh well. If so, worst-case, it'll probably still have another mostly good season or two. Which I can live with. I wouldn't expect Bob's to suddenly nose-dive like (for instance) Archer did; the characters are too well developed. At this point, I think the occasional bad episode will remain occasional.

"Look, Alex, we've done a bad thing, okay? Just try and enjoy it."

Oh no, I hope I don't find that to be the case with Archer! I just finished S3, and so far Archer's gotten much better every season. S3 really nails the concept IMO, while it wasn't quite there in S1, even though you could see it trying.

I think mostly it's just been Sacred Couch and the season premiere this years that have been horrible for BB. What I don't really understand is the people that like either episode. I mean since I'd think our tastes would be similar-ish if we like the show in general, it's weird for me when people love these episodes I think are horrible.

The season premiere of The Simpsons was sub-par too, although great by comparison with the BB premiere. Weirdly mean-spirited for The Simpsons, and without bothering to be funny.

Some people continue to love Archer throughout its run. Most of us who post on IMDb noticed problems, particularly in Season 5, though it bounces back to a fair degree in Seasons 6 and 7. Mainly the issue is character discontinuity (which, in retrospect, began in Season 3 and got pretty bad in Season 4), but it also dumbs down significantly. May you be one of the lucky few who is unbothered!

I'm not sure I'd have any issue with character continuity issues, given the show's ridiculous...we shall see! (Hopefully! My backlog is insane LOL)

So far IMO it's gotten much better from S1 to 2 to 3, and I've loving the loopy character traits that keep building up.

If they're not going to actually give us any more good James Bond films (IMO there have been 3 clear cut good ones, and some of the Brosnon ones actually were pretty good too.) I'd as soon have them go the full on Archer route, instead of pretending they're serious :-D
