Four Voices Speak Yet Only Three People Are Possessed. What?

When British Priest whose uncle was a Priest before him said he heard four voices on the tape with Isabella's mother, indicating a multi-demon possession, why is he never possessed?

Everyone who touched her seemed to take a demon. Except British Priest with a mysterious past who probably killed his uncle during that "one exorcism he helped in."

Nervous Priest and Isabella were displaying possessed behavior *at the same time*, so I thought multiple demons was the point at first. Then, as the film kept going, Nervous Priest is solo possessed and blows his head off, which leads to Isabella's concrete possession/seizure.

Theeeeeeeeeeen, in the car after her hospital episode, she touches Cameraman who we watch be taken over ... while Isabella is still in possessed mode in the back seat once again indicating multiple demonic possession. Then the car crashes and everyone dies.

What? We get the subtle clues throughout about mood swings and seizures indicating psychological disorders, but then we get the clear supernatural elements at work too with the supernatural contortions and otherworldly insight from the possessed people. I feel like this movie was cobbled together from stories in a fiction workshop class the author was a part of.

Hey, thanks for having your subject be a spoiler. Genius!

There's no such thing as a spoiler to this movie. Everything is predictable literally from the moment you meet all the characters.
Me and my friends sat there going "He's the love interest. He's gonna be possessed. This is what's gonna happen. He's gonna try and kill this person."

Seeing how fast we were able to call everything was actually more scary than the movie itself.

First of all I never heard the characters introduce themselves as British priest, nervous priest, and cameraman. Um Michael, Ben, and David were their names.

Okay, to answer your question, Maria probably still had her demons, there was no indication she was "cleaned" like Rosa. Just because 4 voices spoke doesn't mean there weren't more in there. Then David, then Isabella, the daughter, then Michael. As for why Michael wasn't taken over, they needed somebody to be "normal" and try to fix things like he did. Perhaps they'll get to him in the next film, who knows? Maybe since Ben was a real full priest who did most of the rites, while David was part Doctor and thus a man of science and God, he was more susceptible to being possessed than Ben.

David was possessed because he was weak and wanted to do what was right by the church to keep his job. That was his primary concern. Ben did not get possessed because they never indicated a sin. He clearly wanted to be an exorcist. And demons say anything to hurt the people around. He likely never killed his uncle, never wanted anyone to die, those are the lies the demon will tell. However, Isabella was ripe for possession as by church standards she had aborted her baby-per doctors orders because she would have never made it to term meaning either she or the baby would die. In the churches eyes that is still a sin. Silly, but a sin. And additionally, Michael was jealous. He was angry about the connection of the two priests with Isabella. And so he was weak. He also didn't believe when they went to film her mother and I questioned why they would bring an unbeliever as that makes him ripe for possession.

Ok...there were originally 4 demons within the mother. Somewhere in the film I thought I heard Ben suggest that the one demon had disciples, so basically I took this as 1 boss, 3 grunts/followers/whatever. So from the mother's attempted exorcism, 3 were transferred to David, then 2 transferred to Isabella and the last transferred to Michael. The mother was never actually "cured" right? So the 4th (technically the 1st) was still inside of the mother, so there were none left to possess Ben...at least thats the way I see it.
hmmmmm. Just a theory. I dunno. Nevermind.

Oh, goodbye mama. I'll never do dishes again.

After the comment in the car that was something like "you know me...everyone knows me" I got the impression she was actually possessed by the Devil himself as well as his demons (desciples). Just my thought on this one.

"You and me are goin' on a car-ride to hell... and you're riding shotgun! "

I was also under the impression that it was the Devil when she said, "You know me, everyone knows me," but I still thought it was such a rushed ending that perhaps there were more plans that got thrown away or something. It just seemed too much of a "coincidence" that Ben specifically said he heard 4 individual voices and there were 4 of them (plus the mother) in the room at the time of the exorcism. I felt like it was leading up to all of them being possessed but then...suddenly there was a website and credits and I was like, "Wait, it's over?"

i understood it that 1 was still in the mom, and the subsequent other 3 characters were then possessed, ben didn't need to be possesd to make 4 because momma was still possessed. And i think they were all showing signs of possession from the time they left the hospital as someone above me said there was creepy crazy priest david, paranoid camera guy michael, and spiteful bitch isabella. Poor Ben, he never had a chance.

hmm...I thought that the demons left the mom and went to the priest. Then after the priest died they got transferred to Isabella

I also wondered why everyone was possessed except for Ben; but this was my take on how it all went down:

Everyone became possessed except for Ben. After the exorcism; David, Isabella & Michael all started acting a little strange. David was acting very manic, was eating in the dark, etc. even before he tried to drown that baby. There is a scene of Michael talking to the camera about how Isabella, Ben & David had kind of joined up together and were excluding him. This shows his behavior as paranoid and a bit erratic. As for Isabella; while David & Michael were at the baptism, she was talking to the camera and made the comment about beginning to resent Michael and how she wanted to turn the camera on him and ask him how it felt to know his mom had sex with his dad's best friend (paraphrasing). That is one of the possession criteria: is to have knowledge of something you could never have known. I found it strange that there were 4 demons and 4 people but only 3 people were possessed. It was kind of a predictable film but I enjoyed it anyway. It wasn't spectacular; but I've seen worse. The entire theater freaked out over the ending but really how else could it end? It was building and building and building; I think it really had no other place to go than to just abruptly end.
Just my 2 cents.

Imho, all four were possessed. The clue that enables me to believe this: All four were increasingly aggressive, belligerent, and hostile towards each other until the end. They were not themselves.

Ben was not possessed. There was never an indication of such. Even facing David as the demon he said that is not him. He is my friend. I will deal with it. He called the priest during Isabella's possession and was trying to get to the higher priest because he didn't know how to deal with the multiple transfer of demons. That was higher than him and he needed help.

Michael's demon manifested when she tried to choke him in the car. Not before. So a powerful demon was transferred to Michael through touch.

He kept telling Ben oh and he said thank you. The first two possessed people said this. I think the devil is very powerful and able to take multiple form. And he is able to jump from person to person. However, it seems he was activated by the exorcism because he had been with the mother the entire time. It was like he was happy for the new sinful hosts.
