Question about Joaquin Phoenix
Does he always walk stooped over like that, or did he just effect that for this movie?

Phoenix has a scapular defect that causes one shoulder to roll forward. Freddie has his posture as a result of the damage he has done to his body, particularly his kidneys, with the poisonous concoctions that he drinks.
Combined, the effect is the image of a man in perpetual pain. Freddie suffers, but perserveres.
