Why did Freddie assault the customer in the beginning?
Was he trying to get fired?
shareHe asks the man if he is married and if the picture is for his wife, then he starts antagonizing him. I thought it had to do with a kind of rage & shame he felt after his failed date with his co-worker, and (beyond that) his whole longing for Doris. It made him angry to see this normal man with a normal family. He wanted to unsettle the guy and mess up the picture. Plus he was probably drunk.
shareFreddie was hung over. There was a baby crying.
The man represented everything that Freddie didn't have, but longed for. He was fat, married and prosperous. That was enough to piss Freddie off.
"a malcontent who knows how to spell"
Yup... Add in Freddies overall frustration and lack of understanding the "Straight Life" and you get quite a moment lol.
shareYou need to shut up...
shareYou need to back off!
Howard Hughes was Italian?
Ahh, a simple but so effective line. People who never saw the film probably think you meant that lol
shareNot gonna lie, a small percentage of me thought that I may instigate a fight with that line had someone not of seen the movie haha.
My note on why he did it, I didn't think too much about why he did it or even why to him to be honest, I just thought it's his character. Simple thinking I know, but he was most likely drunk at the time, he's an arrogant man, not much of a fan of his job really.
Cause he's bat s**t crazy!
Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.
No, they were just setting up his character - a drunk loser who sabotages every civilian job he holds.
It took me a few seconds to recognize the customer as W. Earl Brown, who played Dan Dorrity on Deadwood.
"Can I use her underwear to make soup?"
