Being deported is a terrible hassle, except for Mexicans

the threat of the awfulness of deportation i did not sense in this movie. probably because the border is so porous.

Bichir is smart, instead of contesting it in the courts, where he will be incarcerated for at least 6 months, he just accepted his fate, then planned his comeback to USA by "ignoring" his pro bono lawyer's (and the movie's) advice re hiring coyotes-- "cheaper and less expensive" the attorney says.

Well, it is risky. Both legally if he's caught, but also physically -- it's not outside the realm of possibility that he will die attempting to make the trip.

But I do agree, given the options available to him, he may as well go back immediately, rather than launch a fight that he will not win, only to sit in jail for 6 months and THEN be deported. Going back immediately is the better option, whether or not he planned to return. But of course, he did plan to return.
