It was a perfect ending, though. Karl talking about his favorite pastime, watching insects, and the completely normal idea of sawing off a few inches of a mattress to make it fit, ignoring the springs popping out the side.
shareI'm sad it's over but they ended it in a great way. I especially love the ending of the episode with them as old timers.
shareThe mattress story had me in tears, they stapled the open area together. Must look great!!!! I love Karl, he never ceases to make me laugh.
shareI just love how out of the 3 of them (Karl, his dad, and even Suzanne) none of them thought SAWING OFF A SECTION OF A MATTRESS was a bad idea. Instead of doing what normal people would do, and maybe move the other furniture around to make room for the mattress, they think a viable solution is to destroy it.
And I loved Karl's comment about how you can cut off a piece of anything and it wouldn't normally be a problem, but they didn't expect sawing a mattress would have any negative consequences. What other furniture is he sawing pieces off of?
When he went into the story about the boiler, and he said he called his dad about it, I thought Ricky or Steve was going to say something like "Dad, I'm having problems with the boiler" "Have you tried sawing it in half?"
haha. "I've been beaten to the post".
I feel the same way. Anyone notice the characters over the last 3 years from the show made an appearance - especially the ending with all the people Karl talked about growing up.
They ended it in a great note. And as Gervais said, it's a wrap, "for now".
Would be nice to see the Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years special somewhere in the future. Like a special.

The sawing of the mattress was funny but I am not sure I understand why they did it.
I know it was only the animation, but it showed the mattress with a section sawn off still sitting on the full sized bed which was still wider than the sawn mattress. Wouldn't they have to saw a bit off the bed too to make it the same size as the mattress? Or was the mattress over sized for the bed frame and they just cut it down to fit it?
Maybe they had bought a narrower bed, but Karl and Dad decided they could get away with using the old mattress. At least the didn't get one from the back of a van, again.
