He seems to be just as strange as Karl.
He's also Karl's go-to guy for all mattress-related needs. First he helps him get a used mattress from the back of the van, then he helps Karl fit his mattress into a space by sawing a piece of it off. And neither of them see any problems with these activities.
Would love to see an interview with Karl and his parents.

Karl's mom is also an interesting character, and seems to be even odder than Karl himself. My favorite stories about her are how she was so overprotective of Karl as a child, such as the time when it was snowy out so she locked him inside the house to prevent him from doing his paper round, or the time when she kept him home from school because it was windy outside. She also has an odd fondness for insects, such as the time when she stroked a bee as though it were a kitten, or when she would keep a spider under the TV like some kind of pet. This might help explain Karl's own obsession with insects and why he is constantly attributing human characteristics to them.
Between Karl's mom and his dad it starts becoming clear how Karl turned out the way that he did.
