I love Cage. One of the best actors ever. But it's crap like this that feeds to "he will take any role" crap. This looks awful, but in a hilarious way. That accent, the squinty eye. His performance in a bad movie is never dull.

shareit's obvious he is doing an American English accent and I think the squinty eye is part of the character as he explains it to Jacob in their little heart to heart chat in the mountain bandits camp and that's the reason he has a birds nest on his head ;-).
yes he isn't giving a command performance but he isn't the lead star of the movie and he is probably hamming it up to make the film more interesting for himself since he is playing a lot of small parts in a lot of films since his career has taken a nose dive when he ran out of money. He probably won't make a big comeback so he is just having fun with his small roles mores the pity as he was a big movie star once upon a time.
Very intelligent comment, JP. But, don't count Nick out just yet. He is still a 'Top-Dawg' in most of our eyes. It's almost as though he is taking these roles to piss off his former A-hole employers, and even some friends who turned their backs on him when needed help the most. Without a winning script and director, he might remain here for a bit. I know his ego is a bit past even 'marginal humility', but every cripple can learn to walk again.
He doesn't even need to act ever again if he chose not to. It's not always about the money. There are many millions of rich, young, beautiful women worldwide who would pamper him for life, and just as many wannabe producers who would throw money at him for years, bidding to bring his career back. The main thing here is; It really looks as if he's been 'Blacklisted'. Look at Val Kilmer: Became a prima-donna, and just got later and lazier with every shoot. We don't know the full, if ANY of the real story right now.
He better 'Kiss the Ring' at least once, or we won't be seeing him at all within five years.

Cage comes across as being a very likeable person in all the interviews I've seen (not that interviews tell much, as anyone can put on a likeable face for an interview).
