This show is not the same

I still enjoy the Rizzoli/Isles friendship, but I really don't care about Rizzoli's mom's life/love life, or what her problem is every week. Also, I don't hate the relationship between Frankie/Nina, but its too much. I used to look forward to a new episode. Season 5 was the last good season for me. Season 6 had a few favorites, but not the same Rizzoli&Isles I once remember.

This current season had a few good episodes, but still. And I miss Frost.

Kind of agree, sometimes I think to myself, this woman should have a life of her own already, keep the boyfriend, let her children show up only once in a while...

Frankie and Nina... they make sweet friends, but it feels awkward to make them SO sweet to each other. I don't buy Frankie as such. And no offense, but I don't see him wanting to reciprocate a woman who gets upset in such 'put my foot down' fashion... Two different levels here..

Past its expiration date. The Mom has become a caricature. Her decision to give up a great guy to tend to her almost middle age children is one of the most ridiculous storylines in the history of TV.

reply

Yeah I was a little annoyed at her using Jane's job as the reason for breaking up with her boyfriend. It's not fair of her to lay that kind of guilt on Jane for loving what she does. I don't see her doing that with Frankie. I think it's a double standard.

reply

I have been hating this storyline of the 'overly involved parent in her adult children's lives' from the very beginning. There is no expiration date on having concern for your kids, no matter how old.... but inserting yourself into every detail of their lives along the guilt trips is way too much. Trying to make Jane feel like crap about going undercover was the worst. The last thing Jane needed to worry about is her disapproving mother. I've never found this aspect of their relationship enjoyable to watch.

the show has not been the same ever since that Jan Nash took over and they replaced the old writers with new writers, so the show has been like this for a while now. I used to love this show and watch it every week...but ever since it became the "Rizzoli family show" and the writing became increasingly sloppy and inferior with the new writers onboard, I've lost interest. Now I just mainly watch it for Sasha/Maura...if it were not for her, I probably would've dropped this show a long time ago.

While I agree the show is not as good as it used to be, I must disagree about it "becoming" the Rizzoli family show. It has always been that way. First there was the parents getting divorced, then Angela moves in with Maura, then Tommy shows up, then has a baby (not knowing at first whether it was Tommy's or Frank Sr.'s). Angela worked at the precinct cafeteria for years and she dated Jane's boss, Sean, for quite awile. The show has revolved around them from the beginning.

reply

yes, but back then there were also really good storylines and focus on Maura's family too, in season 1 we had the appearance of Maura's stepmother, then she found out that she was the biological daughter of Patty Doyle; a notorious crime lord, then her biological mother Hope appeared, we had whole story arcs focusing on Maura and her relationship with her biological parents, and then there was that story arc with Maura giving her half-sister her kidney etc. So even though there were a lot of focus on Jane and her family since the beginning, there were still ALOT of focus on Maura and her family too in the earlier seasons, back then, this show actually seemed like both Jane AND Maura are the main characters, that this show truly WAS about Rizzoli AND Isles.
But the problem now is that ever since that Jan Nash took over, the show has mostly become about Jane and her family, Maura rarely gets any focus or storylines anymore, this is what I meant by this show becoming the "Rizzoli family show", it wasn't like that before, in the past, Maura had ALOT of focus and interesting storylines involving her family...now she's just reduced Jane's 'sidekick', whereas in the earlier seasons, they were more like 'partners' and 'co-leads' of the show.

Due to Jan Nash's very obvious favoritism towards Jane/Angie Harmon, a part of me is glad that this show is ending. Maura/Sasha deserves much better, her talents are wasted on this show anyway.

reply

Agreed. And, I agree with the really bad writing around Angela's character. I don't care what she thinks. She's really obnoxious. Again, the writers!!

reply

Totally agree.

I hadn't heard about the change in show runner and writers. My issues make way more sense. The motivations for behavior are ALL over the place now so no one is able to play the emotions appropriately.

reply

Agreed. If this show were not ending, I'd stop watching. Just hanging on to the end.

reply

Me too.

I have started fast forwarding most scenes with Rizzoli's mom and the Frankie/Nina scenes. I just care about the cases, Jane, & Maura as I'm curious how they will end the show.

reply

I agree. I still watch the show because of Maura/Sasha... and Kent, I find him funny.

Rizzoli, Rizzoli's mom, Rizzoli's brother, Rizzoli's family issues, Rizzoli's persecution storylines, Rizzoli's love interests, Rizzoli this, Rizzoli's that. I am so done with this Rizzoli thing.
