Torture to watch

I'm a fan of this director's two previous films but this new film of his was torture to watch. Long, disjointed and tedious. Somewhere in that mess is a beautiful idea that was poorly executed. The constant flashbacks are confusing and the jump cuts - both in picture and sound editing - are ineffective. The finale couldn't come too soon.

Very disappointing. From the reaction of many in the crowd at the recent Palm Springs Film Festival, the film did not impress.

Personnally, I understood the movie quite well. But I was disapointed. I was expecting much more since CRAZY was a movie that I really enjoyed. The editing was superb, the music also, but the ending was not very good. I was not shocked or amazed, just disapointed!

The pacing could have benefited from cutting 30 minutes out of the movie.

Agreed.....trying way too hard to be deep and meaningful.
Maybe enough material for a short film.

Actually beneath all the confusion is a ridiculous idea, which pretty much sums up French cinema

Something isn't right with this movie. To call it disjointed is an understatement. I was so confused by the end of this film, I simply gave up and walked out of the theater frustrated. I think it was trying too hard to be meaningful and it just was a hodge podge of images and story lines that were all over the place.

I agree that it could have been done much better but its not bad at all, but yeah it is a bit messy.

Yes, totally agree bluesdoctor & OP...this was by far the worst movie I have seen in a while. Pretentious ideas that never materialize within the film, unlikable characters, and an overall alienating and massively depressing effect in the end. Torture indeed. Absolutely terrible.

Calling this torture to watch is a bit harsh... It's definitely too long and spends too much time focusing on Antoine's everyday life, which isn't all that interesting... The stuff with Jacqueline and Laurent in Paris is much more interesting - watching her determination to do the best for her son turn into something more obsessive and dangerous... Of course, it's obvious from the start that the two sets of people are connected. But, the introduction of the idea of reincarnation is too sudden and clunky. Though, having said that, the film did start to engage my interest a little more at that point... I didn't really feel the reincarnation idea fitted with the rest of the film and it might have been less jarring to have instead given the two sets of people some sort of familial connection - Jacqueline and Laurent's trauma echoing across the generations and subconsciously influencing the characters in the present day... As it is, it just about held my interest - Kevin Parent is nice to look at and the business with the photo during the credits is clever. But, I think I would have preferred to see a film just about Jacqueline and Laurent and their life in Paris in the 1960s.

The sex scenes should've just went all hardcore if the actors were going to do full frontal and tit grabbing. What a bunch of exhibitionists.
