indicative with what's become wrong with Batman

Since the Nolan trilogy, they all just want to be gritty and dark. So they end up focusing on the mafia more than they did in the Burton era and before. Batman has a great rogue gallery of villains, and it's more fun when they dip into that. Obviously we have the Penguin here as well and he's always tied to the mob. But since we know this show won't show Batman, they're just leaning into the underworld. Which does seem like it would draw Batman's attention btw but okay. And this show is fun. But it almost tries too hard. When I'm in the mood for The Sopranos, I'll watch The Sopranos (not dissing, had a rewatch earlier this year, still love it)

I kind of feel like Pattinson Batman was kind of incompetent anyways. The fact he letting the Penguin take over. Is kind of incompetent. As far as fun. The show isn't boring. But i wouldn't call it fun. Adam West Batman is fun. The Penguin is just the same generic unoriginal Mobster story ive seen 1000 times before. But slapping the Penguin name on it. Even tho this character has nothing to do with the Comic Penguin. I read Batman so i can see him kick the Mobsters ass. I don't give a sh*t about the f**king mobsters. And Frankly neither should anybody.

No, just inexperienced. It's well established that this Batman has only been doing the job for about a year, and at this point the only ally he has in the GCPD is Gordon, who isn't yet police commissioner at this stage. Moreover, Gotham has just been devastated by an unprecedented flood, and the authorities are stretched to the absolute limit just trying to keep people alive, healthy, and mostly safe in a disaster zone.

Even in the comics continuity, a much more experienced and established Batman, with vastly more in the way of allies and resources hasn't managed to rid Gotham of organized crime, and you think this much less experienced and connected Batman is incompetent because he can't do it.

Yeah, that's reasonable.

The Batman is Batman in his 2nd year. Batman Begins was Batman in his 1st year and he wasn't that unprepared or that completely incompetent. That why Bale was the better Batman, even with his hard to understand whisper voice.

reply

Okay. Right. He has two year's experience instead of one -- still a rookie, in other words. He still should have cleaned out Gotham entirely, despite the disaster, despite the power vacuum, despite the fact that he's one man in a megalopolis with a population numbering the millions. If he didn't, he's a totally incompetent fuck up.

Right. Whatever.

Yeah I’ve watched a bit of the Penguin and it looks like another mafia series or movie. I’ve already seen this 100 times over. I’m fine with basing a show around penguin but you need to bring out other villains of the Batman universe because if you don’t then it’s just another tired show about the mafia

One of the best Batman adjacent comics in 20 years was Gotham Central, which doesn't really have Batman in it. There is precedent for these spinoff stories being amazing
