Just as difficult to watch as I expected
I was aware of this film when it came out, but I consciously avoided it knowing that a key scene was quite violent and grisly. I can't say for sure that I regret my decision at the time. This film vividly recaptures Aron Ralston's ordeal and I'm sure the real thing was worse than we could possibly imagine. No film is ever totally what you expect; there's always some wrinkle or deviation from one's first impression, but this film largely conformed to my predisposition. It's brutal, harrowing but also emotionally poignant and an expertly-made film. James Franco gives one of his very best performances.
