Was James Franco not able to grow a beard?

As a man, after 5 days of not shaving I have a FULL BEARD. How is it that James Franco had his early puberty like goatee/mustache (kids in grade 9 grow hair that thin and sparse) and practically no other facial hair grew in the entire time? If he was not able to physically grow a beard, which I'm assuming was the case, why would the director not have added at least some 5 o'clock shadow like make-up, or fake facial hair to give the appearance of time passing and him being a man? It just bothered me, because I saw it as one of the BASIC requirements that they neglected to capitalize on.

He was there for 6 days, not 6 months. He'd have scruff not a beard. Plus he was severely dehydrated etc. At the time he was rescued, he'd lost 25% of his blood supply and was on the verge of decompensatory shock, which is when the body can no longer provide oxygen to vital organs and begins to shut down. Due to the dehydration his body would have completely slowed down.

I'm a grown man but somewhere in my DNA, genetics, there is something that only allows me to grow very little facial, body hair. I went six weeks of basic training without shaving.

Jimmy Franco is one of many Hollywood celebrities unable to grow a proper beard. This includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and others.
