SPOILER - questions about the end

So was it the mother (Ellie) who killed the son? Why?

And the father locked up the little girl to protect her from the mother? Was that it?

I honestly thought it was the little girl who killed her brother and Dad locked her up to avoid prosecution. Thought the girl was a "bad seed".

When Emma went to get the daughter out of the dungeon, I thought the daughter would turn out to be the murderer and go on a rampage, kill Emma, et al.

"Hi! Would you like to buy some Girl Scout cookies?"
"Are they made from real Girl Scouts?"

I think it was the mother who accidentally killed the son and the father out his twisted sense of protecting his family locked his daughter up to protect her.

reply

I think the mother was just trying to spin him around or something (if you look closely enough it definately shows the eldery mother's arm) and everything was simply an accident... though I am still trying to figure out why the father was chasing after him in the first place?!

The mother crying at the end also explains why she was a part of it, and when the father says "you wouldnt' undertand" tells me that he partly trying to be the good yet bad guy here? I am just simply giving suggestions.

Seems right

The mother explained earlier that Fritz had been put into an abusive and brutally strict foster family and that he suffered for it....and then at the end, she explained that the son had ran away and fallen into a really bad crowd/done bad things and that the father, again, was sometimes overly strict to his son, too. The father, Fritz, was apparently going to discipline the boy and he ran from him and accidentally fell down the stairs and died.

reply

vantand was correct except the mother did kind of reach for and scare her son and he fell backwards down the stairs. The father kept the little girl prisoner to "protect her" and also to cover for the mother. And.... then he told the little girl that her mother was dead. Nice guy.

reply

I think his reasoning for "protecting" his daughter is that she would be taken away from them and sent to foster homes where she would be abused like he was when he was a child in foster homes. (like that would be worse than what he did to her)

So over the years, the authorities didn't do anything about a couple whose two children suddenly vanished? Not believable at all.

reply

Exactly. They could have just disposed the body of the son and never said anything, or just say that he ran away, since he'd fallen into a bad crowd. It makes no sense to THEN lock the little girl up in a dungeon for the rest of her life. I thought this was a really stupid movie, even for Lifetime.
