Trying too hard
There are cool ideas in this. Stick figures being the equivalent of voodoo Dolls for example. The time paradox is okay.
Where this fails is the use of jump scares and action. The original has a lot of down time and I think the creators didn't want the audience to think this was boring. Problem is, the characters did a lot of dumb things and the overuse of jump scares was annoying at the end. There wasn't much tension so much as a hope that they movie would kill the characters off before another jumpsxare.
