with time travel and alternate reality, could the book of shadows be potentially canon and the games too?
shareYes, potentially, and you bring up a good point. It now can become a franchise, but if so, hopefully done with respect to the original as this was.
shareMaybe I'm wrong on this because I've only seen this movie and just read/watched videos about about Book of Shadows and the original, but I don't really see anything stopping them from being in the same universe, even without time travel and alternate reality shenanigans. Just presume the original actually happened but was released as a movie in the three movies' universe (no matter how messed up that'd be), as I don't think there's anything to contradict it, and it works fine.
- Events of original movie happen.
- Footage found, released as movie.
- Book of Shadows happens, spurred on by release of movie.
- Eighteen years or so later this movie happens.
Is there anything I don't know of that'd stop them from just happening normally?
(I don't know about the games.)
In BoS, the TBWP movie exists in that universe. The folklore around the Blair Witch is still "real", but Heather, Josh and Mike did not disappear.
Alot of this movie retcons BoS, so I don't think you can meld them together anyway.
Ah, okay, if they're established as alive in BoS that would mess things up and require alternate dimension and time travel stuff to shoehorn it in.
shareI suppose that's why they call it BW2 instead of 3. It's a reboot of BoS, which in turn was really kind of a reboot of TBWP.
sharesince the woods warps time and space, perhaps they're two different dimensions that mingle together via the woods? Anyway, with time travel you wouldn't need prequels. maybe next time we could have the camera folk seeing the actual witch trial.
