Maybe a stupid complaint BUT

The Blair Witch Project: filmed in Marlyand, deciduous broadleaf/mixed forest
Blair Witch: filmed in Vancouver, temperate rainforest

The shooting locations are separated by thousands of miles and affected by completely different climates. The forests looked nothing alike. It really took me out of the film. Silly perhaps, but there it is.

Dude, it's trees and bushes...who cares

reply

The forest has enough of a presence in both films to qualify as a character. So it's sort of like casting a different actor in the sequel without explanation. Anyway, the post is intended for people who DO care, not those who don't.

reply

Believe me, I care. I was a big fan of the first one and even liked the this one but let's be honest, theres too many other problems with this film that come before the forest.

reply

Same here but the obvious difference in setting is what bothered me the most, that and the sodding "shaky cam" ... ugh.

reply

They weren't allowed to film in the same area as the original so it's not necessarily their fault. Besides, as stated in the original, the Black Hills Forest is gigantic, so I'm sure that parts of it would be thicker and more dense like in this movie.

I don't blame the filmmakers, although broadleaf woodland is EVERYWHERE. Many public and private entities would welcome what Seneca Creek turned down - if only for financial reasons. I've spent years in the field and the differences between broadleaf and temperate rainforest are glaringly obvious. They look nothing alike unless your definition of "forest" is so broad as to include a single criterion: trees.
