Disappointing (spoilers)

With all the buildup and secrecy surrounding this movie, it sure ended up being a disappointment. Instead of offering anything new or original (or at the very least, THRILLING) the movie seems perfectly content just doing the same old stuff horror movies have been doing for YEARS. Formulaic scares, unoriginal plot (it could've been titled The Forest: Blair Witch Edition), and bland characters with no real personality that makes you want to root for them.

There are some interesting ideas in here (the witch distorting time, the Drone camera, Lane apparently being put under the control of the Witch), but none of these ideas are ever truly explored and are just reduced to being plot devices.

But I will give them credit by saying that the sequence where Lisa is crawling through the tunnel was a genuinely intense and fearful scene. I was cringing as I imagined being in that situation.

But the worst part for me was the ending: I can understand Josh turning around when he thought heard the voice of his sister, but when Lisa turned around after hearing the Witch imitating Josh's voice (SAYING THE EXACT SAME WORDS HE HAD JUST SAID A MINUTE AGO AND JUST AFTER SHE'D SEEN THE WITCH IMITATE SOMEONE ELSE'S VOICE TO TRICK JOSH INTO TURNING AROUND), she still TURNS AROUND. It just felt completely out of character for both of the characters who were arguably the most knowledgeable of the four teen characters.

Overall, this movie was all buildup to a mediocre product. But I guess I shouldn't have been surprised considering that I hate the original movie.

Yeah I agree with pretty much everything you said. Not a terrible movie but a letdown. That tunnel scene though... that part was pretty crazy.
