According to Lane and Talia, no one ever goes in those woods?

They stressed a few times that no one ever goes into the woods -- Seemingly, not because people are afraid, but because there just isn't really any interest or reason. There was some discussion in another thread about whether the first film exists in theatrical form in this sequel. Regardless, the news of the disappearances and unearthed footage would have no doubt inspired hundreds of thrill seekers to go in those woods. Especially if we are to believe "The Blair Witch Project" film exists in this sequel, Burkittsville was swarmed with tourists after the first film came out so I have to imagine the Black Hills woods were as well.

Yeah, it was pretty dumb. They tried to make it seem like that area is as far removed from civilization as The Yungas or Guyana or one of those places that they send people on Naked & Afraid. The truth is that they couldn't even film the first movie without switching locations to make it seem secluded, and this one was filmed up in Canada.

There's no way they could go into some place in the overpopulated U.S.A. so secluded that no one is around if you walk for a couple miles except for maybe certain mountains with thin atmosphere.

According to legend, the townspeople burned down Rustin Parr's home. As far as we know, they all survived. The boy who survived the massacre lived on. What was so special then? Were there too many people for the witch to kill?

I think the rationalisation is that the witch can't attack anybody during daylight and the curse needs one night in the woods to "take effect".

Of course the film contracts itself as the black girl got wounded in full daylight.

The wound was almost definitely not caused by the curse

It's been about 16 years since the original, I imagine the tourism from the movie died down at some point. So if all that's left is locals, locals who know that bad things happen in the woods at night, then I imagine the woods would be abandoned. Maybe that's why the Witch specifically called James and his friends back. If the brother of a previous victim when missing in the same area, it would be huge news so more victims.

That makes sense, the witch maybe wants more people to kill.
And the disappearance of the original trio makes me ponder too, what if the groups of people who searched for them slept overnight in the woods? Wouldn't they be cursed too? And then more people would have gone missing, which would have drawn more people...
