Hollywood is beating a dead horse here

Just how many more "Blair Witch" films are going to be made before audiences finally get sick of it? Or has that time already come?

Are you talking about "found footage" films in general, the Blair Witch "franchise," or both?

I noted elsewhere despite appearing in several found footage films that show her committing murder and kidnapping, the demon-possessed Katie Featherston makes no effort to change her appearance (i.e. dyeing her hair and wearing glasses). In the "Paranormal Activity" universe, if all the footage is available to the public, I think Katie would be on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted" list and be the subject of numerous media stories and "true crime" documentaries on cable--making her one of the most recognizable fugitives alive.

Considering the first sequel failed and this one failed, I'd say they're sick of sequels.

You can't create a straight sequel to TBWP. It either has to be done like Book of Shadows--the premise of BoS, not the execution--or some other more conventional style. You can't make a found footage sequel to the film that kicked off the genre.

What's more, most people are more interested in the Witch herself and the mythology than random kids going into the woods for various reasons. Make a friggin' prequel and Elly or Coffin Rock or Rustin Parr.

Sad thing is they'd damaged the brand so much now those will probably never get made.

This one didn't fail at the box office, it just fell below expectations. It made 30+ million worldwide on a budget of 5 million, so it made a profit.

You don't know how box office works. You might as well say BoS didn't fail, either. It made 66 million worldwide after adjusting for inflation. Non-failing movies don't drop from 45% of their screens by week 3. Even Book of Shadows managed to hold on longer than that.

While they will make money because of the budget, it was horribly received by fans and critics alike.

I just posted in another thread about this but I have been tired of these found footage and home movie looking films for awhile now.

The original Blair witch drove me crazy with the shaky camera, bad filming quality and whole bad home movie vibe right away....THEN it started a trend! Why?!?!

Hollywood, please go back to real quality film making and enough with the video cam filming. How do you raise the prices for movie admissions and lower filming quality??? I wait for everything to hit cable now. No more theaters for me.

Technically Paranormal Activity started the trend. Sure there were a few inbetween BWP & PA but you can thank PA for the countless assembly line found footages films.
