Wizard of Oz references

1. While testing the drone, a business sign reading "Emerald City" or "Emeral City" is visible in the background
2. The trailhead into the woods is paved with yellow bricks (or has yellow bricks scattered around its entrance)

References didn't seem to go anywhere though. They might have in a smart movie, as opposed to one that sucks ass.

Heart, brain, and courage... or lack thereof.

Interesting...

3. Ashley and Peter were both attacked by trees. Not throwing apples like in the WoO, but still.

4. James was trying to go to a home. Not in Kansas, but Rustin Parr's.

5. When the witch nailed Ashley in the tree, she was flying like a flying monkey.

6. I suppose the children's handprints in the house would be about the same size and height as Munchkins would be.

7. The drone went up into the air, but couldn't provide them a way home, like the balloon with the wizard in WoO.

8. They slipped over into another world in the woods, like Dorothy did with the tornado.

Yeah, they're pretty weak. Heh.

They reference the Wizard of Oz in the first movie too. When Heather asks Mike how he feels about going east he says:

"Which wicked witch was worse? The wicked witch of the east or the wicked witch of the west?"

Heathers says the wicked witch of the west was the bad one and Mike says "Let's go east."

Kind of cool with those little references in this movie. The Wicked Witch of the West is definitely the most iconic and recognizable witch in cinema history.

"Notice how I ride side saddle, it proves I'm a lady of quality." Witch Hazel

I didn't catch this, but it's pretty cool.

This film is basically a nightmarish inversion of The Wizard of Oz: The characters travel into a hellish dreamland ruled by a witch. She targets and chases them, but unlike WoO, there's no secret way to destroy the witch or escape back to Kansas.

Pay no attention to the gangly-armed monster behind the curtain.

Interesting.

I noticed the yellow bricks and I waited for someone to sing "We're off to see the Wizard", but nobody did.

I'm pretty sure Talia was the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz.
