do people here like Grave Encounters?

I recently, on this very board, asked for some recommendations to some stylistically similar movies and one recommendation I got was for GRAVE Encounters 1 and 2.

As luck would have it they were selling cheap at the local DVD store so I scooped them up... And wow. Not what I expected.

Don't get me wrong, the basic plot structure was extremely similar to this one - group of idiots agree to spend the night in a location that has a reputations for being haunted and people dying in it and the people foolishly underestimate how much danger they are in as they all meet horrific ends by an otherwordly entity - but I just didnt enjoy Grave Encounters as much.

For one, the demons ghosts in it were so OBVIOUSLY CGI and the way their faces contorted was clearly just a special effect. I preferred this one where you only ever got brief glimpses of what was stalking them.

Also the performances in Grave Encounters were way too campy. I know they sort of justified it by having them be reality TV show hosts so overacting is expected but the campiness detracted from the scares.

All in all I enjoyed Grave Encounters and would definitely watch it again. But it didn't leave me with a sense of dread like Blair Witch did. I googled it and there are heaps of reviews calling it the scariest movie ever and other such hype. So am I missing something?

What did you think of Grave Encounters as a stand alone duology? And in comparison to Blair Witch? Scarier, cornier or equal to?

Definition of troll on IMDb - anyone who expresses a view different to mine.

Really enjoyed the first GE. The second was good too but FAR too much set up in that one for my tastes.

I love GE.
For some reasons it really soothes me and I watched it a few times after exhausting days.
1 is better than 2 imho but 2 has its moments, too.

Try watching Rec if you want an intense found footage film. Alternatively, you can watch the American remake called Quarantine. It's almost a shot for shot remake of Rec, but it didn't do anything better than Rec.

v/h/s/ and v/h/s/2.

Grave Encounters was way better than this film.
But the sequel was terrible.

I personally loved Grave Encounters even though the CGI was pretty bad and overdone.

If you are looking for movies that are similar to the Blair Witch or the Blair Witch Project, I would suggest The Hunted. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3149900/?ref_=nv_sr_4

It was pretty damn creepy when I saw it a few years ago. It has a pretty low rating on IMDB but most found footage horror movies do. I think its worth a watch.
