Lightning - explained!

Everyone wondering what the bright lights and overly-bright lightening was: my theory is that it wasn't lightning but rather the outside world (beyond the witch's domain) progressing a full 24-hour cycle. Each "lightning" seen from the witch's world is a full day in the outside world passing in a matter of seconds. This explains why Lane had grown a beard in just a day while being trapped at the witch's cabin.

I like this theory a lot, though I have my doubts whether or not it's what the filmmakers intended--they don't seem to have the best imaginations. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah. maybe I'm just overthinking it, but how do we/they explain that one really bright light scene, then?

Aliens. That is why the electronics keeps shutting down and why the tend went up in the air and why time/space is distorted.

There's NO credence to the aliens theory at all. Bright lights and electronic glitches don't mean martians! This is a film about witches and monsters. The lights need to relate somehow to the witch's world.

Yeah I thought about aliens too. Hell... I even thought of Predator sometimes. But yeah, the intense light and the long limbed figure made me think that an unfortunate alien crashed there and his crash (along with his alien tech onboard) caused that time loop crap.
