EVERYone who watched the movie is a little be confused about it espacially at the end im talking about the light and the form of the witch i mean her body her shape it does kinda looks like aliens not a witch or demons or an evil soul . James as i saw the main character has brought his friends to just to sacrifice them in order to know what happened to his sister but the movie showed us that he bileived that he was looking for his sister i mean that is stupid how could his sister could be alive all that time actually years after her disappering

The creature that chased everyone in the third act is in fact the Blair Witch. They mention earlier film that Elly Kedward was put on a makeshift raft with rocks which stretched out her appendages. So that thing in the end is actually the Witch, the creators of the movie would like you to think differently, but it is the Witch.

As for James going to look for Heather? Well that just plot induced stupidity which requires you to suspend your disbelief (it's still stupid though) because they needed a quick reason to get people back into the woods. James wasn't trying to kill the people he brought into the woods, he was pretty naive. If I remember the movie correctly he wanted to get the hell out of there after the first night.
