What's the Audio Commentary like..?
Heard it's 'humourously morose' (as the two comment on the film bombing) but is there any secrets revealed...?

shareThe online buzz about the commentary is the only reason I'm definitely getting a hold of this.
shareThe commentary is good but frustrating.
1. I really like this film, and it's a shame to hear the writer and director make so many comments about how the movie failed critically and financially. They still give a lot of insight into the production, and they're often humorous, but after a while I feel like I'm overhearing the funeral of the franchise. In that regard, it's kind of depressing.
2. Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett totally bitch out when talking about things we want to know about the most. That scene in the attic with the light? They purposefully say they won't explain what's happening because nobody saw the movie in theaters. Good way to "punish" the people who did see and enjoy the movie. Thanks, guys. The same goes for whether or not the apparition is actually the Blair Witch. They say no, but the explanation is to look for clues and Easter eggs throughout the film. Big whoop.
3. Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett even manage to berate the fans of the film in the closing moments, citing there won't be any sequels because even the people who liked the film didn't see it on opening weekend. Well guess what? I did see it on opening weekend. I paid cash on a non-matinee showing. I guess people like me don't matter.
Seriously??? They say they were being self-deprecating, but this is just childish. I saw the movie on opening weekend with my girlfriend, who found so many elements vague & half-assed. To help the unsatisfying feeling leaving the theater & walking to the car, I said "the makers said they'd explain it more on the Blu-Ray commentary" (which they did say). We were both excited knowing that it was a quick thrill in cinemas, but would be a deeper and more interesting experience with further knowledge given on the home release. Instead they copped out. Now they're tweeting "The mystery is the point", which has back-track written all over it.
shareHeh. Funny, I always got the impression they made these commentaries before the movies were released. I can't think of a single one where they've commented on box office or reviews, and I've watched like 18 by now (and I'm pretty sure I watched at least one where they talk about how "hopefully people will like this" like it hadn't come out yet).
I wonder if this movie just did things differently or I'm wrong in general.
Though hearing this is actually making me kind of want to buy the movie just for the commentary. Sounds kind of entertaining, from the perspective of someone who isn't invested in the franchise.
A lot of the older ones have commentary on the BO, but that's understandable.
Yeah, I was under the impression most commentaries are done before the premiere.
I'll wait until a ripper uploads the commentary myself. The only way I was going to splurge on a DVD is if there was an extended cut. There isn't. Screw'em.
What a bunch of tools.
I went to see the film and paid just like everyone else, along with the purchase of the BR/DVD. Didn't they make such a hooplah about the bonus features only to bait and switch with offering absolutely nothing?
They are backtracking on the Witch's design claiming it's a victim. Hello?! You mentioned in the mythology of it her limbs were stretched with weights and the design matches just that. By denying, they're allowing these stupid UFO/Alien theories which are not supported by any means, flourish when it's pretty spelled out it's the witch. The sounds of it, the stick figures now acting as voodoo dolls, the cairns, Rustin Parr, can't believe some people need everything force fed to understand it is something supernatural not extraterrestrial.
I for one would like to see more films in the franchise because there's so much that can be done with it but by repeating the film's success, you limit yourself in just trying to outdo the original hence why Book of Shadows seems to be getting more love recently because it dared to do something different.
There are couple possible rationalizations for the witches design in the flick.
1.) It's Elly, and the witch is something completely different. Thus, a further retcon of the first's mythology since in the first Elly was the witch.
2.) It's Ashley, turned into the stick lady. They did comment before that Ashley got sick for a reason, yada, yada, could be bullcrap.
The reality is it's probably just them backtracking after everyone started crapping on the design.
Not that I've heard it, but it sounds like a couple of pretentious *beep* who think the public is just too dumb to get their genius.
first of all the directors were obviously joking around. I don't understand how I picked this up and no one else did. some of you probably haven't heard this but they are trying to get another sequel made. they were trolling. if you didn't get it, what the heck?
The commentary track was done two weeks after the premiere, which is why they comment on the movie bombing. One of the directors obviously has his own theory as to who the creature in the woods is. He jokingly brings it up early in the commentary. they mention that there was not enough Eileen Treacle mentioned in the movie, but oh well move on. Eileen is quickly mentioned when that hand pops out of nowhere....when the girl is climbing the tree for the drone. Eileen is brought up again right around the time the creature is seen in the woods outside the house. Then she is mentioned briefly again in the final scene in the attic. He seems to be suggesting it's Eileen Treacle...the girl who supposedly was pulled by the blair witch into the river. There's a connection mentioned with Eileen with the black girl and that she pulled a root that was growing out her leg.
As for secrets....not really. they mention how there is a lot of footage they didn't use and called it terrible and that's why the blu ray has no deleted footage at all. They mention the hidden items from the original Blair Witch movie that are in the old house. Such as the 8mm camera which many people have seen. The other is the map that was lost in the first film is also seen in the house but so far it seems no one has found it but it is there.
the making of shows something the commentary track talked about where one of the crew members, a grip dressed up in a crappy sasquatch costume and tried to scare the cast and crew.
It was always my take that Ashley was the stick woman.
However, you can't blame people for thinking it was the witch given the exposition Blaine gives. They should have done a better job setting up the Eileen stuff if that's the story.
