Am I the only person who actually enjoyed this film as much as the first?

What I don't understand with the reviews for this alongside the first. The first got good review but this got bad reviews which to me I don't get because they're both practically very very similar to each other except in this the Witch is more vilont. I thought it was a pretty descent film and in this you finally see the witch (whom shape-shifts). The only thing I thought was disappointing was the End of the film as it didn't give any closure from what happened in the original or that Heathery doesn't even make an appearance in the film which I was hoping she would have.

I love it. Especially on second viewing.

The first film only got good reviews because it was somewhat original in the way it was made for the time. That still didn't make it a good film but it did have more going for it than this one. The characters were better the acting was slightly better, it had a lot more tension and it was also well marketed. It still suffered from being a bad film overall, it was difficult to watch and just wasn't scary.

This one however comes across as a bad remake with a lot of dumb jump scares thrown in. How many times did they think they could get away with playing a loud sound and have someone suddenly jump into view....

The only new thing they added is a couple of 1 second shots of the witch.

reply

Apparently that wasn't the witch...
Answers will be on the DVD commentary.

WAY TOO MANY! One or two, OK, sure, I get that. But this movie was loaded with those stupid jump noises. Who sneaks up on people like a ninja then yells "OH HEY!".

This entire flick was loaded with jump noises and people yelling each others names constantly. I can't believe this is rated over a 4.

Your opinion.

CG gore is the worst thing that has ever happened to the horror genre.

I counted 7 times main characters were startled by other main characters running into each other suddenly. Jeez guys, announce your near and approach calmly.

reply

The movie was basically just a series of jump scares, with poorly acted drama between them. They got old extremely fast, and by the end they just annoyed me more than scared me. Also whoever thought this needed a Bigfoot or alien spin needs to be fired.

reply

It's kind of difficult to not announce your presence in the woods, when you'd be stepping on all sorts of noise-making nature things. That fact and that there's pretty limited reaction to people disappearing/dying were my main issues.

I liked it better on the second watch too. I think I'd like it better still if the filmmakers got to make the next one that they obviously had planned for.

reply

I genuinely liked it. But it wasn't great. My expectations were too high for it. But I enjoyed it.

reply

I just watched and enjoyed it so you're not alone! I won't explain more, it's useless on IMDb when we like something that other people hates lol

reply

It's quite possible since the original was god awful, boring garbage.

Wrong, you stupid hater.

reply

Nope it was just terrible

reply

It was good. It could have done without the stupid random magnetic filter crap every 15 seconds, it made no sense. And using a phantom with a remote that wasn't even close to the real remote bugged me. Other than that I actually enjoyed it. A much better sequel than book of shadows.... I think most people that didn't like it never really saw the first movie when it came out before the theaters... When it was independent theaters only and had people outside asking for help finding them, websites looking for them even IMDB didn't list their names. It was the greatest movie experience to date. So it definitely brought back all those great memories. And was pretty good itself. People today need to take some marijuana oil to help with their ADD so they can focus on the actual movie instead of being bored by having no CGI, explosions etc. I've always said, the people on IMDB are *beep* with their opinions on movies.

reply

I don't think it was as good as the first movie, but it's still okay. There is a lot I would do differently, but as it stands I'm glad the movie was made. It was 16 long years since Book of Shadows so I was beginning to lose hope we'd ever get a 3rd. Then when we did I was thrilled.
