This movie has too much of everything and clearly does not know what to do with it. It has too many characters, each of them completely flat, undefined, without history or character, wasted and gone too early. We know nothing about any of them. Too many horror features: there is some time-travel, there is woods with no end, there is a witch, some kind of aliens (?), sudden madness, clocks that stop and night that never ends, screams in the dark, woodoo dolls, magic, falling trees etc. There is too much screaming and crying, too much running, too dark, too many yelling... It's just a mess and without any reward at the end.
The movie had 6 characters if I remember correctly, that's really not much, especially compared to slasher movies.

While I disagree about "we know nothing about any of them" I do agree that they were flat. Some were completely useless, like Ashley and some were complete Jerks, like Peter.

Some of the things you listed aren't horror features, like magic and falling trees (that's not just in horror movies).
Again, I don't think that's really a lot of "features", the problem is that they didn't do much with the stuff they introduced.

6 characters is too much here because movie had no time to deal with any of them. I couldn't tell who they are and what kind of persons they are. In TBW first movie, at least characters were very well described, not the best, but they tried. We lost those two towners before we knew anything about them, we just briefly known Ashley before she got into derilium state and was pretty much useless etc. Good horror movie makes us care about characters, and here, we did not have time to care. I agree that they didn't do much with stuff they introduced. So many opportunities, and nothing done with it. I guess they didn't have time to play with all that and that is why I think there were too many features. If they just toned it down a bit, there is a chance they could have done something with it. I think they missed so many chances, for instance, they could focus on time travel but leave out the house that has no exit or vice versa. And the woodoo? Too much.
