Lane and Talia and just the way characters behaved in general[SPOILERS]

The plan Talia and Lane had made no sense.

OK, so the found the footage in the woods and posted it on the internet. Later, some people got interested and wanted to check out the place where the footage was found. Lane and Talia want to go with them, later we find out the reason they wanted to go there is because they planned to put a bunch of stick figures around while the others were sleeping.

The reason they did that is because they know there's something wrong with the woods and they wanted to make the others leave.

There are problems with this:

1)If they don't want people to go into the woods why did they post that footage? Wouldn't that make people curious and want to check out the woods? That's exactly what happened.

If they didn't do that the events of the movie wouldn't have happened.

2)They believe in all the legends about the witch and the woods, like the whole "if you stay there for some time, weird things will happen to you". Then why did they encourage those people to go into the woods?

Why didn't they just said "Oh, we faked the footage."? Sure, they might look like total jerks, but at least the others would be discouraged from going there.

3)They lied about knowing the woods well and going there often. The others didn't have much experience either and those two were like some guides to them. They didn't realize how badly that can all end?

4)This one shows how nonsensical the behavior of other characters is too. What made Lane and Talia so sure they plan would work? I mean, yeah, as soon as the others saw those stick figures they wanted to leave so the plan worked.

The point I'm trying to make is, those characters saw a weird footage of someone in the house and wanted to go check it out. One of them believed it was his sister, who was missing for a long time. They all saw Heather's footage, they all knew about the legends etc.

What if the stick figures didn't make them wanna leave? What if that made them want to find the house even more? I mean, now they know that Heather could still be alive, weird things are starting to happen.

But, instead, the others wanted to go right away. I mean, yeah, that's smart and all, but hey, this all started because the guy believed his sister is still alive and in the woods after all these years. Sure, there were some skeptics in the group, but that was all weird. Again, they even saw Heather's footage and all the weird things that happened to her in it.

What did they expect was gonna happen? What was the point of preparing so much if they're going to run away at first sign of trouble? They talked about the creepy legends etc. so much and other things I mentioned, that you'd think they expected for something like that to happen.

What was even the point of going into the woods in the first place then'

5) This goes back to Talia and Lane specifically. They said no one went to the woods in years. How can they know that? There had to have been someone who went to check the woods out and Talia and Lane wouldn't be able to know that.

Also, when the others see the stick figures they decide to show the footage to the police. So, that would get more attention from people and more and more would want to check out the woods.

That goes against the very point of their plan. I'm not kidding when I say that the best thing they could've done is simply not upload the footage they found onto the internet.

I'm actually surprised Lane and Talia wanted to help those people so much. They were making fun of them from the very start, especially Peter. They should've just packed their things and leave those ungrateful jerks as soon as they showed them where they found the footage. I guess they really didn't want to see someone get hurt in the woods, though, they left pretty quickly when the others found out they put those stick figures.

They're all morons.

My theory is that Lane was the new Parr. He was working for the Witch the whole time and deliberately lured them into the woods. It explains his actions and some of the dialogue like him telling Lisa about having to do what she tells you.

He seems to know what is going to happen to the group. "These people are going to die". Talia seems oblivious.

Didn't they say something along the lines of "There's something going on in those woods and people need to know that" which I interpreted as:
Lane and Taila knew that the main characters were going to be filming and making "a movie" out of it for others to see, so they used the opportunity to show them/convince them that the Blair Witch is real.
I'm assuming that they (T&L) were scared that nothing will actually happen and so the group will leave, so they faked supernatural behaviour to keep them interested in the story.
I actually don't really get what was their point in making people aware of what's happening there, but to be honest, I don't think it's that important.

Lane also mentioned (while joking) that the Witch might have used him to guide new victims to her. This, I feel like, was a total joke coming from Lane as, like Lisa noticed, nothing happened to him after spending a night in the woods and to be fair, if I was on his place, I probably would have came up with the same damn joke.

And when it comes to the group wanting to leave after seeing the stick figures.. I felt like you could see it in James and Lisa's expression that they didn't really want to leave. It was more because of the pressure from Peter and Ashley. But then I also see your point, and here, I agree that if I was on James' place, I wouldn't just give up and listen to my sceptic friends, but I would go on to look for any more proof that my sister might still be there/ or at least some explanation of what happened to her.

'You're saying that that's a real person...underneath?'
