I thought the movie was okay, but it could've been a lot better. My biggest issue was the character of James. If the events of the first movie were 20 years ago, would his motivation really be strong enough to go out into the woods to search for his sister? He looked only 25 at the most. He could have a few memories of Heather, but not a deep emotional connection.

I think what they should've done is have a scene showing his parents and how desolate and lost they were. He'd have to be the one living with them all those years under the shadow of those events, and not to mention all the scrutiny from the media and the public. Getting his parents back would serve as the motivation to go out there and make things how they used to be. Maybe even a scene with them begging him not to go.

I don't know. I just don't think it had the had the emotional impact of the first movie. The first one was a very emotional movie as we watched the characters turn against each other and lose all hope as they realized they were never leaving those woods. This one didn't have that emotional punch.

James was a mistake to begin with. Heather never mentions a kid brother and his motivation makes zero sense.

They should have just had it be random kids going into the woods. After 20 years, the disappearance of Heather and Co. would have turned into the same kind of folklore as the Coffin Rock story and Rustin Parr. It would have worked better on that premise if they were just going to rehash the first movie, which they did.

This. Not to mention the whole "I think that's my sister, still alive, living in the woods after 20 years" idea was dumb. This was basically a reboot with the "brother" aspect thrown in there to make it a sequel.

Would had been scarier if it was the towns people that was after them, like a cult of satanists. To me that would've been more scary as it could happen whereas all this supernatural stuff is far fetched making it not scary

That thought had crossed my mind as well. The idea of a cult that worships Elly Kedward and tries to summon her spirit might an interesting one. Perhaps they could've set up the murders in this particular movie to keep the legend and the memory alive. That would've been an interesting idea for this particular film.

It would've been realistic to the Blair Witch mythology as well, because in Curse of the Blair Witch (the little mockumentary made to promote the original film) it states that something Blair Witch related only happens every 50-60 years. Since it's too soon for a new Blair Witch event the logical thing would've been to do a prequel or make the villain(s) human.

There were some supernatural things even in the original.

I thought we got enough cult stuff on Paranormal Activity already, lol.
