The Witch (Again..)

SPOILERS (obviously)

So I just saw the movie and I'm kind of confused. A lot of people seem to think that the long limbed creature is the Blair Witch. Altough, the writer has stated, the witch is not shown in the movie and that said creature is "someone else". I kinda like the idea of the thing to be Heather or Ashley and it seems to become a popular theory..BUT :

What about that creepy woman that appears to James for a brief moment when he is alone in one of the rooms of the house ? She resembles the old pictures of Elly Kedward that have been floating around on the internet or back in these old fake documentaries. There's barely any focus on that scene. Plus, it contradicts what the writer said of her not being shown at all. So yeah..any thoughts ?

reply

I don't think enough of her is shown to see what she looks like. If it's even a she--it could be Peter. I'm leaning to toward Heather's apparition because that's what he wanted to see.

reply

lol if he saw what he wanted to see.....Then the camera wouldn't have picked it up.

reply

Why do you always LOL? It's bizarre you do this then follow up with stupid comments.

It's not what James wanted to see = imagining it. It's what James wanted to see = that's the form it took. So yes, the camera would pick it up. Beyond that, let's not pretend the director thought any specifics out on this thing. You can hear James talking to Lisa even though he's dead, remember.

For what it's worth, the figure James sees in the bedroom is wearing a hat and knit sweater, not dissimilar to what Heather was wearing when she's last seen.

reply

How was it stupid?
You said he saw what he wanted to see.....Normally, that would mean you are suggesting it was in his head. Therefore, it obviously wouldn't come up on camera.

If you meant that the witch took the form of heather then why you would word it like you did and not just say "it was the witch taking the form of heather"?
Don't make vague comments and then call other people stupid for misinterpreting them, how arrogant are you?

You can hear James talking to Lisa even though he's dead, remember.

Yes but we don't hear Heather's voice talking to James, do we....
Why did the camera pick up one voice but not the other?

And if that image was the witch using the form of heather to lure him.....Why would it just flash in front of him for like a split second?
Surely, if anything that would tell him that she is dead/a ghost and looking around the house for her screaming her name is just useless.

When James is in the house and that person flashes real quick, it looks like Lane. While filming portions of the film in the theater to get a good picture of the witch, I also filmed that scene and looking at the frame of the appearance it really looks like lane. Now for the thing with the rain coat? on, I have no idea.

I don't know, the hair looks more feminine, more straight, while Lain's was all over the place, like some hobo afro.

Awesome man, thanks ! I personally don't really think that's a dude, but like pretty much everything what happens in the house is up for debate. The way she or he floated towards the camera reminded me of the interviews in the original film. You know, where they say that her feet don't touch the ground. Plus, to me it looks a bit like the real life version of this picture.

After reviving the scene where Lane meets up Lisa in the basement? It doesn't appear to be the same clothes on Lane that is on the whatever it is in the picture.

reply

Doesn't look like anyone in the movie. I wonder if it's supposed to be Heather, but they had to make it very unclear since the actress didn't want to be a part of the film.

or something.

It's supposed to be Heather to lure him in.

It's supposed to be Heather to lure him in.

That's what I thinking too.

"I'm the ultimate badass, you do NOT wanna f-ck wit me!"Hudson,Aliens😬

reply

But how would a very quick flashing image of her lure him?
Surely, he would see it and then know it either wasn't real or was a ghost of some kind.

reply

That doesn't look like either Lane or the long-legged creature. I think it's the witch manifesting itself as one of its previous victims or perhaps what she(it?) looked like when alive. The cardigan looks old fashioned.

It's too cerebral! We're trying to make a movie here, not a film!

reply

I think the long limbed creature was supposed to be the witch but after the backlash & dissapointment with it not looking how a lot of people pictured it to the director is trying to fool people into thinking if there is another movie you might see it then. In my opinion I feel they had to show something is out in the woods for the franchise to carry on but now it's like what is that other creature or who did it use to be.

You hit the nail right on the head. That thing was obviously supposed to be the Witch. If not then what was the entire point of adding the tidbit about her getting rocks tied to her arms and legs? All this is simply Wingard's attempt at damage control, oddly enough people are eating it up for some reason.

I will not fear, fear is the mind killer

A number of years ago Todd McFarlane Toys released a Blair Witch figure. I think that the makers of this new movie may have tried to base the Blair Witch on the figure.

Here's a link to a photo of the figure:https://s26.postimg.org/f6qij7hh5/blair_witch_figure.jpg

I'm guessing people didn't like it so then the director was like, "That's not the Blair Witch. It's one of her victims." But then that raises the question: How did her victims end up looking like that? Did she want to make them look like the stick men in the trees? To me, it kind of makes more sense that the witch would look like that, because she's a supernatural being.

Remember when Lane (the kid with blue eyes?) told the story about the witch's death? They didn't simply hanged her, they tied rocks to stretch her.

one of the directors on the commentary track seems to be hinting that it's Eileen Treacle. the little girl who was drowned in the river by the blair witch. every time the creature or a part of the creature, like the hand in the tree, is mentioned he brings up Eileen. He doesn't flat out state it, he seems to just be hinting it. especially early in the film, they jokingly say that they didn't mention Eileen Treacle enough. so Eileen has turned into some kind of tree creature. Looks like the black girl in the movie was turning into one too. she pulled out a root with moving tendrils out of her leg.
