People who call this a remake...
...so are certain sequels to Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre etc. also remakes?

shareI think they're just misinformed. I mean, it's easy to get confused. We live in a time where remakes of classics run rampant, The Blair With Project is considered a classic, all the aforementioned films have been remade and this isn't called The Blair Witch Project 3, it's just Blair Witch and that's confusing.
shareI don't think it's all that confusing if people actually took the time to look things up on the internet before bitching about the movie. It's clearly stated in the movie at the very beginning that they're looking for Heather who disappeared 20 years ago.
How they can then think it's a remake and not a sequel, I still don't understand.
And even if those people who were fans of the remake weren't interested in actually seeing the movie to get that info, all they had to do was Google it to get the plot points if they were really that bothered by the thought of a remake existing.
Apathy on the rise; no one cares.
I think it's a combination of things: the title(which didn't idicate it as a sequel), almost everything is a remake nowadays, and timing (the original was released in the 90s followed by a sequel no one remembers).
Having said that, remake or sequel, nothing is ever as good as the original. Let's face it! They had to know it would get picked apart from fans. However, I feel like it wasn't that bad of film if it's not compared to the original.

I think the biggest argument for it being a remake, is the almost shot for shot pieces that were filmed.
Jesus H. Christ, they even stopped the 'action' building up simply to get Heather's brother sniveling on camera at how sorry he was.
Those sequels aren't carbon copies of the original, like this one pretty much was.
They also doesn't take a big old dump on the lore from the previous films.

What about all those Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequels?
The first 3 Friday the 13th sequels are pretty similar to each other (they don't have the exact same scenes, but it feels like you're watching the same movie).
