Teller and his obsession with doomsday devices, the only thing on Earth that could make him a bigger star than Oppenheimer. Second Law of Thermodynamics says it can't happen. And once they did the math they realized that was so. This is why Teller flew into a rage whenever someone mentioned Dr. Strangelove in his presence. Because that's who he was.
