This plot hole was downright infuriating (Spoilers)

Main Bad dude gets his face blown to smithereens...but med bay fixes him...jodie foster takes a knife to the neck...perma-dead...and she just gave up? she goes from psychopathic power hungry usurper to "no...no more"? REALLY!?!?...REALLY!?!?

and where the hell were the god damn robot security during all this sh!t?

reply

How is that a plot hole?

I agree that it was strange that Jodie Foster didn't want the help. I was kinda glad in a way because she was a horrible person and.......her acting was so shoddy, I'm sorry to say lol. I found it contrived. And what is the deal with her accent? It sounded like she was trying to do a British accent, and not a very good one.

reply

Maybe poor choice of words with plot hole..shoddy character development I suppose would be closer to the topic at hand...horrible horrible writing on her death

but the total lack of robot guards (especially in the absence of body guarding her character) was definitely a plot hole...I feel the writers just gave up 30 minutes in and said *beep* it we'll just put a bunch of explosions in to compensate; anyone have Michael Bay's number?"

reply

Uhm... maybe I missed something but Robot Security would not have just stood by and allowed her to confer with Kruger, who she rehired illegally to apprehend Max. I do not think she said no because she wanted to die, I think she said no because she knew she was a goner.

OHHH GOOOD FOR YOU!!

reply

I think they just bailed on her character so it could come down to Max versus Kruger.
(Foster probably wanted to bail on this movie as well)

She's completely stuffed at that point. Let's say she gets healed - she either has to live in a world run by Kruger, who will just kill her again, or Kruger's coup fails and she gets hung for treason by the ruling body of Elysium. Rather than face the consquences of her actions, she bails out.

reply

I agree with this post.

By this point in the story, her unorthodox behaviors and actions were well known and she was backed into a corner. She'd rather die than deal with the consequences she was going to have to face.

I agree with OP on those points.

And what about when they had Max tied down in that room to extra the data from his head? You'd think they'd have guards in there, not just the doctors to do the work. Geez.

reply

I'm currently at the scene where Max shoots Kruger to the ground and instead of finishing him, he sobs about his already dead friend and then runs away...

SPOILERS AHEAD:

Neither Jodie nor Matt Damon needed to die.

I'm sick of seeing the hero die, as a martyr at the end. It's unimaginative writing, in most cases. It worked in Alien 3 when Ripley HAD to die to save the world. But most are weak imitations trying to emulate this martyr ending.
