why so much hate?
I don't understand why this movie got so much hate. It's not perfect but it was entertaining how good is that scene where he gets the exo suit

For me the first half was great but then the movie started spiraling down. Not all the way down, but still... I felt like the first hour opened the door for a Potentially great movie but it stayed superficial and it rushed to the finish line.
shareYeah I don't get it either, I enjoyed it. Expect for maybe Jodie Fosters weird performance. I watched this movie without knowing anything about it. Coming on here afterwards and seeing the bad reviews and hate on the boards is a little baffling to me.

I don't hate it, I gave it a 6, I was disappointed because there was so much potential but too much of the movie happened on the planet and not enough on Elysium for me. All that technology at their hands yet the planet is a total *beep* I needed more background and more Elysium to really enjoy this film..
"Well, isn't this place a geographical oddity! Two weeks from everywhere!"
I just finished watching it. I thought it was great... great idea, great film, great music, great editing and effects.. the actors were terrific, but I would have liked to see less action and more substance.

shareI think the way they setup the world was hard to accept. Wealthiest people create their own world and they have no army, no defenses? In case of trouble they have to call psychotic maniac on Earth and hope for the best? This is just stupid. What stops people on Earth from creating their own countries and declaring war on elysium? Nothing besides some robots that even mexican thugs have no problem dispatching.
shareCulturally speaking, with no actual leadership, no education system worth a damn, and a general consensus that constantly thinking only of one's own interests above everything and everyone else leads to almost no collective thinking or organization of any kind. In order for a group of people on earth to collectively create a country, you need leadership and organization to do it. You cannot create an army out of a set of people that constantly only think of their own needs, and constantly screw each other over to get those needs.
I do agree with you, however, that it seemed strange that Elysium had no self-defense systems designed to prevent immigration from Earth... However, especially with what the standard procedure seemed to be after the one ship successfully landed, is it possible that the people of Elysium were not as threatened by the immigrants as Jodie Foster's character was? I mean, isn't that why they had her before the council, reprimanding her for hiring an assassin to do her bidding on Earth?

I still think it would have been interesting to see Eminem in Matt Damon's place but he wanted Neill to have the movie take place in future Detroit. And Neill didnt want to do that. Probably would have requires less sfx too since Detroit is already starting to look like the sh!thole LA from the future anyway.
