other Apollo references....
Apart from
"What is this for us, but a tiny footfall..."
... If you're into "Moon-Hoax Theories", the backdrop to the landing site in The First Men in the Moon is a constellation of hills that is visually repeated... It's behind the ship, and it's in front of the ship (when they sit on it, seen from their POV), and also off to the side when they're taking photos. It really looks like the hill-grouping seen in many official Apollo videos and pictures where, regardless of landing site (Apollo 14, 16 etc.), distance from landing site or perspective, you can see the same grouping.
It's like the film makers are saying "Yes, this is how you fake a moon landing... No-one will notice!"
At least here in The First Men in the Moon they added subtile differences to the large hill (Kubrick turns in his grave...)
Any takers? share
