Unlocking the Door? Some Spoilers.
Having recently watched this, I'm quite on the fence if I actually like it or not. I found much of the film deeply intriguing and warranting a second viewing, but I tend to find the story itself a little hollow in terms of giving enough clues for me to decide what is going on.
On the other hand, I hate being handed a collection of images with a director then asking me, "You tell ME what it means." THAT is not my job…the story itself should support its conclusions without complete interpretation (fabricated from nothing) by the viewer...otherwise, it’s not a story.
Anyway, even given all the vagueness of the story and a ridiculously anticlimactic ending, I really only have one question; how did she open the door at the start of the third act?
It’s obvious that she had some small power even with the power of the pyramid blocking her. Earlier in the film she "glitches" the monitor in her room so she can watch cartoons and it’s obvious by the way the scene is filmed that she did this with some mental power. Yet, at the end of the film, she just gets up and the door is open. Barry is, at that moment, occupied at home killing his wife so it’s improbable that he orchestrated her escape. Also missing (unless I just missed it myself) is any scene substantiating her use of her mental abilities to unlock the door...its just open.
I can accept that she is becoming more powerful or that the pyramid is having less effect on her (although this is very poorly conveyed in the story) but having her simply get up one morning minutes before her would be rapist/killer arrives only to realize "Oh...my door is open" is just a touch too limp to really accept.
Any thoughts?
