Elena is not Dr. Barry Nyles daughter spoilers...

I've been seeing alot of unsureness as to whether Elena is Barry Nyles daughter or Mecurio Aborias daughter...she is Mecurio Aborias daughter.....when Barry Nyle says "would you like a picture of your mother" in one of their sessions. The next scene is Elena in her room she looks under her bed and finds a folded picture....as she is looking at the photo she hears/senses a heartbeat as she remotely scans the institute you are cross-faded to a white ceiling and white door and you hear the same heavy breathing that you hear when Dr. Nyle is talking with Dr. Aboria in his room right before the whole 1966 flashback. Then the pyramid is turned on and breaks Elena's connection.

Right after that scene Elena is in another session with Dr. Nyle and she telepathically communicates with him the words....I want to see my father.....

Also when Dr. Nyle delivers the deadly dose of "benign pharmaceuticals" to Dr. Aboria there is the whole interconnected minds scene between Elana and Dr. Aboria..and this is where I believe she acquires her insight of the institute and her means to escape....

Nice catch on the correct parentage!

But it underscores what short shrift Arboria was given in characterization. What was he trying to do, what happened to him - just get old?

Did Barry kill him intentionally?

I could go on...

Well if you think about it...the story really revolves around Barry and Elena's strange "relationship". I think that Dr.Aboria's presence in the movie is to give more of a back story. I.E. How Barry became a Bald alabaster-ed skinned humanoid, the original intentions of the institute, why Dr. Aboria has become a recluse drowning his sorrows with pharmaceuticals(the whole 1966 flashback)as well as how Barry became Elane's "keeper"....

And as far as Barry killing him....it was 100% intentional....the scene right before he injects Dr. Aboria with the fatal dose is the scene when Elena tries to escape the pyramid is turned on, she is incapacitated and is implanted with a homing device by a Sentionaut. Immediately after she is returned to her room...we see Dr. Nyle staring at her while she sleeps, right after that he goes to Dr. Aboria's room and a brief conversation about the confines of the mortal world takes place then the flashback scene. We know that Barry Nyle is obsessed with Elena and the only link he has left to her past is her father...Barry believes that if he removes her father from the mix she will have no one left to turn to but Barry himself....for-filling his twisted obsession......
